Final Fantasy XIII to use 100% of PS3's power

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has let slip that the hotly anticipated RPG will utilize 'around 100 percent' of the PlayStation 3’s technical prowess when the game finally touches down in Japan later this year.
Speaking to Japanese publication Dengeki PS3, Kitase-san observed that the same case applied to Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, which pushed the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 to their limits, respectively.
“I think around 50% for the demo version. For the final product (just before it's released), I think it will use around 100% of its powers. It is the same situation with FFVII and FFX where we fully utilized the powers of the PS1 and PS2,” he said.
Regarding the presence of Blu-ray as a storage medium for the PS3 version, Kitase added: “If you are talking about using a single or dual layer disc, there isn't really a problem with storage space. However, the PS3 also has a hard drive. Depends on which one you are talking about, but there's still some work to be done on the memory side of things.”
Final Fantasy XIII will be released in western territories in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Yeah great it's going to use 100% of the ps3's power. Code is not yet optimized to the point where developers are truely squeezing 100% of the ps3's juice. Look at God of War 2 and FFXII for the PS2. those games looked tons better than FFX. I'm not saying that FFXIII doesn't look damn good, because it does, but if they're releasing the game for the 360, and the 360 and ps3 versions are going to be very close in looks and performance, then the code is obviously not optimized to make good use of the 100% power he's claiming it will use.

So where exactly is this CPU powre being used? Anyone can write a program that uses the cell inefficiently and I be tthey're not using it to its full capacity unless it's on completely frivoulous programming techniques.
More bizarrely he totally answers the blu-ray question with something about HDD. So what does this mean for the game? Are we gonna have decent streaming from disc or is there gonna be a huge installl requirement for parts of the game, sucking up what little HDD space there already is.
The real question now is if there using 100% CPU and they are talking about hard disks, why oh why do they think that they can port this successfully to the 360???

is this final fantasy 13 or versus 13? because 100% of the power would be hard to do and then how would xbox use it wouldnt it use like 250% of xbox power? and how would ff versus 13 which i thought was meant to be better have more?
and sure if xbox elite has 120gb hardrive then they try to combat bluray it is gonna still be hard so it will have to be multidisk on 360 in that case cus u cant have a game that could use realy good graphics and use 100% of ps3 power on just 9gb disk it would require alot of space

I don't believe it ! Why ?
FFXIII is a multiplatformer, as they said in the past the "white engine" is platform independent.
So it's not OPTIMIZED for the cell (architecture) or in other words it's not implemented for the cell only. So can't imagine the 100% utilization of the cell.
Sorry SquareEnix, I don't believe you anymore ... :(

Nonsense...
First Square Enix hasnt managed to release a single decent game this generation so far ...they werent able to put SOIV in HD for gods sake ..
Second its their first PS3 game ..how will they be able to outdo Insomniac ,Guerrilla or Naughty Dog ?
Third if they use 100% of the PS3 power and features (HDD ,Blu Ray ,Cell processing power ,Sixaxis controls ,PSN ,etc ) they wont be able to port it to the 360 as they have been paid to do ...
So ...I dont buy it.And whats all that nonsense about the demo using 50% of the PS3 power and the final game 100%??

They said that before. So nothing new ^^
But i doubt that it'll use 100%, since it's impossible.
@18
Actually they said that they'll finish ps3 version first and use it as best they can. And after that they make the xbox360 version. So they won't be identical, unless they manage to squeeze enough power out of xbox360. -

I can write an infinite for loop that uses 100% of the PS3's power, doesn't mean anything. I wish SquareEnix would shut the fuсk up.

Since it is also getting made for the shubox 360 they will make it a huge install. Think about it!!DVD9 for the shubox360 (limited space) and Blu-Ray (space is almost endless) for the black beast which is the PS3. I dont see them making a crappy 360 version, if they do, then the PS3 will end up with poor visuals also
first post.....eventually!!!

He had me going until he said 7 and 10 pushed the PS1 and PS2's limits. Are they blind? FFIX was the best looking FF game on the PS1 and FFXII looked the best on the PS2 vesus 10.
And it can run on the 360 because they're developing the PS3 version with the 360 in mind.

FFIX- Best RPG visually on the PS1
FFXII Best RPG visually on the PS
FFXIII Best RPG visually on the PS3 (Until Versus maybe)
Whats with people going crazy over %
The graphics are already at a high standard and the final version will look even better.
CANT WAIT FOR IT!

lol @ #3 this could be a new game for me to look forward too. 100% of the ps3s power. i don't think MGS4 used that much. devs need to be doing this, usingeverything that the ps3 has to offer and making a game awesome.it's expensive but, worth doing this.

100% power isn't the same as 100% efficiency. His comparisons to FFVII and FFX which weren't even THEIR best looking PS/PS2 titles should make that obvious.
As for the Blu-ray/HDD bit, the question must have been about storage in general or not very clear. -

Rrright...so let me get this straight...FFXIII is going to use 100% of the PS3's power...and we know for a fact that FFXIII is unfortunately going multiplatform...so let me ask this, how is it possible to say that they are gona use all of the PS3's power and still port it to the Xbox, knowing our beloved Black Behemoth is technically more powerful than its rival?? Maybe they will get a 2D version or something hehe..otherwise, I beleive this is BS..just to get back on the fans..you screwed up big time Square, nothing is gona change our mind...

Like many other comments have uh... commented, this is crap. Using 100% of what the PS3 has to offer, which includes the Cell, HDD, and Blu Ray, would put it well out of reach for the 360.

@ chiem
No one is gona stop crying about the 360 version. MAN its giving us a 1 year DELAY FOR F's SAKE. F BILL GAY. F ENIX. I do believe they will make it the best they can for the japanese release on PS3. I mean, rpgs fail on xbox in japan anyway so they are gona do their best. So from that point of view we know they are putting their all for the ps3 release at the moment and after that, they will take 1 freking whole year to make it look good on 360 too and finally releasing it in N-A. HATE EM. HATE U BILL. HOPE U BURN IN H E L L.

So this makes the... what, tenth game to "use all of the PS3's power"
First thing that came to mind, as other people mentioned, is that there is no way that FFVII used as much on the PS as FFIX, and not a chance in the world that FFX was within shouting distance of FFXII.
Unfortunately, Square Enix doesn't seem to want to be truthful anymore, with half-hearted PR talk. Trying to say, in case people aren't impressed with the demo, that the real game will be twice as good, graphically.
100% my ass

ye this sounds like codswallop, and even with the likes of uncharted 2 and god of war 3 (both of which look amazing btw) using ps3's power to 100% is one thing but refining it is another thing
