Sony will be the dominant leader in the next-generation console war by 2008, according to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president, David Reeves, who stated that sales of the PS3 would steadily gain momentum over the coming months, before cementing it's place as market leader by March next year.
Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz following the announcement of the European Starter Pack, Reeves proclaimed, "PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will," observing; "It's something that is going to be a slow burner, and suddenly it's like a tsunami; it will just overtake you."
Furthermore, Reeves also expressed doubt over Peter Moore’s claims that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will offer consumers the most competitive software line-up for the upcoming Christmas season. "I know it's nice to focus on one year, but he said the same last year - 'We're going to win the holiday season.' But they didn't; they missed that opportunity," he said. "I honestly don't think that just having the games on Xbox 360 is enough."
Lastly, when prompted to comment on whether he feels the Starter Pack’s GBP 425/EUR 599 price tag is a lot of money to ask for consumers, Reeves stated, "It is, but surprisingly, people are paying that amount of money for it. Now they'll get two games and an extra controller as well."
