[UPDATE] Upcoming Killzone 2 map pack to be free?

Don't get excited just yet, but a Dutch news source claims that the Killzone 2's "Steel and Titanium" map pack will be free.

The rough Google translation of the article (or at least the important bit) equates to the following: "The packet is from April 30 in the PlayStation Store and is offered free to download, as Sony Computer Entertainment announced Friday."

Treat this purely as a rumor for now, as no official announcement has been made. We've contacted a Sony representative about the situation, and we'll be sure to let is know if this is factual as soon as possible.

----------

UPDATE: Nope, sorry folks, this one turned out to be false. The price point for the pack hasn't yet been announced, but it will indeed have a price point.

map packs should always be free if this was on pc thered be so many custom maps you wouldnt need these official releases which is why i love pc gaming if the game has a good community nearly anything can be done

I would seriously doubt its going to be free. Why would Sony throw money away.If they charge A small amount of money, say £3 - £4,I would estimate 50 to 60 % of online Killzone players would buy it which equates to a tidy stack of cash.

I think all publishers should release free add-ons... to support the game... with lots of free stuff it will lead ppl to buy the game... so thats the best strategy... sell the game, not the add-ons!!! Shame on you and your 350k Capcom!!!

This has to be free! I mean come on its practically taken directly from SP. I dont mind paying for extra DLC but not something that is basically already on the disc.

As if Killzone 2 dlc is going to be free... Sony are going to make a good bit of cash from KZ2 dlc, and the new maps & goodies & trophies will be worth every penny.

  35. humanputting

    • 5:28am BST - April 15th, 2009

im still marred by the no co op statement.  T.T  i just dont see why they dont just tack it on, i dont care if it makes the game easier, it is going to be awesome regardless.

    • 11:55am BST - April 15th, 2009

i totally agree with "smiggy" if its not free no buy

  41. bilbo_bobbins

    • 11:58am BST - April 15th, 2009

I think they should be giving this away for free, then if it grabs peoples attention and there are no problems with them, they should charge for further DLC.

IMO the game should of been shipped with 10 maps min.

  42. higgos22

    • 1:34pm BST - April 15th, 2009

@ 33 they dont sell them in australia otherwise id have bought quite a few by now

  43. jaybiv

    • 5:50pm BST - April 15th, 2009

Technically, free is a price point.  I would be shocked if they went the Burnout route and offered a free bone to their loyalists, but I doubt it would happen.  Just saying.

  44. Spanish_Ruler

    • 10:12pm BST - April 15th, 2009

    personal speculation: $5.00

wishing it would only be perhaps $2 ???

    • 10:14pm BST - April 15th, 2009

you guys think and wish its gonna be free. but its not

  46. tetsaiga

    • 5:38pm BST - April 18th, 2009

yeah sure if you want to tell sony your their b*tch then buy this, maybe if its only 1 or 2 pounds/dollars it wont be too bad. if we stick together and dont pay too much for every little extra bit of content they bring out than we will get better value for our money.

  47. Chadvick

    • 10:50pm BST - April 20th, 2009

Add-ons shouldnt have a price, we bought the game, if they add things after it means that they wanted to incorporate it into the game as a whole therefore it should be free.
