Sony has announced that Guerrilla Games’ highly acclaimed shooter Killzone 2 sold over one million copies globally.
Feeling obviously chuffed with itself, the platform holder highlighted the game’s PlayStation 3 exclusivity as part of the "only on PlayStation experience," stating the FPS will “continue to drive incentive for hardware sales throughout the year."
The company added, "approximately 1 in every 3 PS3 titles achieve Metacritic scores of 80 or higher, which affirms PlayStation's proven track record in delivering rich and relevant entertainment content."

Its a shame that Killzone 2 didnt help PS3 hardware sales at all. I guess its not the system seller Sony was saying it would be.

this seems too low, Europe had like 1.1 million preorders and the U.S. has sold at least 500k a few weeks ago

American hardcore gamers have, and will continue to, come around to the PS3. They know where the games are. The PS3 will NEVER get casual gamers. They don't understand why they have to spend $400 - $500 for games. To them, there's no difference between Killzone 2 and Wii fit. It's all just "games".

Two Million isn't a number to sneeze at however I don't understand what PS3 fanbase is waiting for. Sony has just under 22 millions systerm sold. The attached rate so far on most titles hasn't been what one would expect. I know Japan doesn't have Killzone 2 available yet and I wouldn't expect a big sales jump since it's not a market for FPS. It would appear that clearly PS3 is brought and used for more than just gaming. Maybe the cost of the system is still too much for some to recover from so they don't buy many games from the start. I have PS3 and love it but even games like LBP, Killzone 2 has good sales to date. It's just not what one would expect. The only games that seems to have a good attach rate on PS3 is MGS4 and GTA4. Like I said I wonder what 22 milion buyers are holding out for. gow, Drake I don't know.

I am sure I read ages ago there was at least 1.1m pre-orders and they had more sales adding up to 2million, either they were lying or this source of information is rubbish.

hatin aside.........this gen has few gamers, and too many lawyers, stockbrokers, salesmen, and accountants. hatin back to the forefront most of these B@strds don't even deserve to hold the controller while killzone is inside of their ps3. I survived the 06- 07 drought back when we begged for games such as this. sigh..... I guess the whole "if it had more games" argument is dead it's oh noes the price. then next "if it had backwards compat".

For me, I think its a dreadful FPS, COD is far better for gameplay and its controls are far slicker.... I just wish I had spent my money on the new Resident Evil instead.

" stating the FPS will continue to drive incentive for hardware sales throughout the year."
WHAT!!! KZ2 has had no affect in PS3 sales.
This is the stuff that drives me crazy! Don't be all doom and gloom, but don't be completely illogical and try and spin what can't be spun.
As much as I love the game KZ2 isn't moving PS3.

Its going to take a lot more than one good exclusive for Sony to sway some 360 fans to buy their console. The people who own a 360 feel almost as if it is a sin to buy a PS3. I have many friends who have a 360 and a Wii. I own all three consoles. =)

Dissapointing, but then again so was the game. Not exactly the system seller Sony had hoped for.

It just sold over one million world wide? I think the numbers are wrong but if they are right all that hype goes out the window yet AGAIN.

I'm not throwing rocks here, but I thought that Killzone 2 had sold over 1 million PRE-ORDERS in Europe alone? Does that just mean that tons of folks pre-ordered it and then changed their minds? With that news having been reported, I had expected the first month of sales to be well over a million.... Just curious.

After a little routing around it looks like sales are 700k in US/Can/Mex and 700k in Eur/Aus with nobody in japan giving a fig about it.
So sales are 1.4 globally but perhaps they aren't counting the units bundled with a console?
