Retailers including Amazon.com have begun taking pre-orders for New Line Home Cinema's upcoming Blu-ray release for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
According to Amazon, the Blu-ray set will only include the theatrical versions of the three films (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King) and not the fan favorite extended editions. It will also include bonus materials and extra features, though no details have been revealed as of yet.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Blu-ray set has been priced at $69.99. New Line has yet to give a release date, though we expect it will hit stores sometime this holiday season. Keep those fingers crossed that the first trailer for The Hobbit will be included as bonus content.

They'll release the extended versions like a year from now to make money. They could just release standard and extended versions for different prices but what company now-a-days likes to actually give the consumer a real choice when you can just play on our "must have" mentality and rake us over the coals for it?

yeah, ive got the lot on extended DVD so i`d not buy this unless they had extended films again plus more deleted scenes & making of`s etc that were not included on the dvd versions. Oh & some meaty stuff about the hobbit would be sweet too.

Yep, don't be a sucker and wait for the extended version if you're a big fan.

Extended version for me, please. I already did the buy-regular-edition-then-trade-for-extended-edition thing with the DVDs. Not gonna happen again.
