Crytek: Crysis 2 to push PS3 to its limits

Speaking during an interview with Gamasutra, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has said that Crysis 2 for PlayStation 3 will push the hardware to its limits.
Following Electronic Art's E3 press conference, which confirmed that Crytek is building the sequel to the popular PC franchise from the ground-up specifically for home consoles, Yerli confirmed that it had tested out the PS3 hardware to find its limitations.
"The interesting thing is we did run a performance analysis on the PS3 devkit, and you know the funny thing is the occupation on all the CPUs, the Cell and the GPUs, is pretty much – the needle is at the limit," he said.
Yerli sat on the fence when asked whether he thought the Xbox 360 or the PS3 version would offer the better performance for its first person shooter. He claims that both platforms will excel in different areas.
"I mean essentially the game we run is about the same," he said. "Probably one’s stronger on the GPU side, one’s stronger on the CPU side, so depending on what you’re doing where, the PS3 does perform here sometimes better, the 360 performs other things better, but overall by the time the game ships it’ll be absolutely the same."
We can't wait to see the first gameplay footage. If Crytek is pushing the PS3 to its very limit, we're going to expect something spectacular.

@3 lol seriously huh wait... wait... wait... so if the PS3 is pushed to its limits then what's going to happen to the 360, is it going to explode? we know what happens when each system is pushed to there limits, or at least pushed pretty damn hard... PS3= GREAT exclusives/ 360= average exclusives (my opinion/ i've played most)

Yeah ok...lets see it first.
Who is really expecting a multi platform developer to push the hardware into its limits?Even if the 360 were a lot better than the PS3 or vise versa, the game would still be the same for both.Multiplatform developers are like politicians.

Hi Crytek! There are two big elephants in the room, and they would be Naughty Dog and Guerilla Games, would you like to repeat what you have just said? Not saying that your game will look gorgeous, but these two companies have games that visually surpass Crisis in so many areas.

They said it'll be the same on Xbox 360, so how would it be "spectacular" exactly?

The day when console owners are just happy to have games on their consoles instead of comparing it with another will be a good day for gamers.
Every developer says they push the PS3 (or 360)to it's limits. Then, their next game comes out and they somehow manage to squeeze out more. It's just b*ll5h*t.

lol...Just because they say they pushed the limits of the PS3 does not mean they did it efficiently. I am sure there are a lot of tricks they don't know that SONY 1st party devs do know. They sound a little big headed to me.

Pushing hardware to its limit doesn't mean much. Poor programming and crappy memory management can do that. I can create an infinite loop with a few lines of code and push the PS3 to its limit.
I liked Crysis though. Warhead is one of my favorite outdoor shooters.

@ 8
I agree with you completely, I can't understand it either like does this mean that if the PS3 is pushed to it's limits and it's gonna be the exact same thing on the 360 version then shouldn't that mean the PS3 is in fact NOT much better than the 360? It seriously doesn't make sense........
but then again I'm just happy to be getting the game at all ^_^

@7 I dont know WHY everyone is bumming over this game, aside from graphics it wasnt actually that good (and yes I own it, can play at medium settings) and was rather repetitive

anything that is ALSO on the 360 is a trash game for depth. Graphics might be great for a 7hr game!!

When since "pushing the PS3 to its limits" ment something high and mighty? Bad codeing is all it takes and it can be done...it doens't mean that once a game pushing the PS3 to it limits the graphics, sound and gameplay will be goldy and unlike any other. And with the way Crytek engine works I don't doubt that it can and will push the PS3 to its limits. People here are losing it....pushing the PS3 to its limits was done by the likes of Naughty Dog and Guerilla with these 720p native games....then Konami I guess have broken that limit barrier and did the impossible with MGS4. Which no PS3 game has yet to best in the Graphics department. Heck...the PS3 sh!tty defaut browser pushes the PS3 to its limites all the time ...to the point where it can't do nothing else and you must reset the SOB. Come on people...it only takes bad codeing or complex codeing to push a console to its limites.

People just chill it is a multiplatform of course the ps3 will not push to the limit look at killzone 2 and compare it to any other 360 exclusives killzone 2 owns it in graphix i know that the ps3 didnt reach it full potential look at ps2 games when first launch and compare it to todays game for ps2 examples god of war 1 and 2 the graphix are different it didtn look like ps2 graphix it look like ps2.5 lol

God, PS3 fanboys are so funny. They can't undestand why the PS3 pushed to it's limits will still be close the the 360 version. The reason is that the PS3 hardware is overly-hyped. It's the same garbage Sony did last generation with the "emotion chip".

If this is pushing the ps3 to its limits then 360 wouldnt handle it. PS3 has a better GPU (by far) and PS3 CPU kills 360s.

They might use all the resources right now,but i doubt they'll be using it efficiently enough to say that, their game will be pushing the ps3 to it's very limits.
