Hideo Kojima has revealed that he will have far more involvement in upcoming stealth action romp Metal Gear Solid Rising than we were originally lead to believe.
Speaking to Japanese publication Dengeki, the Kojima Productions boss explained, "I'll be working more deeply on the project then a normal producer," adding, It's a completely different kind of action than what has appeared in the series so far."
Podcast host Sean Eyestone went on to say how the team will be rebuilding the game engine from scratch to accommodate the shift to multiple platforms: "We're redoing the engine from scratch, and it's going to look amazing. It's going to be a big project like Metal Gear Solid 4. The entire team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform.”
Elsewhere, Kojima turned his attention to the upcoming PSP entry Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, revealing that he had originally intended to take a backseat role on the project before changing his mind as a result of the game’s 1970s Cold War theme.
"At first, I was just going to create the overall guidelines and concepts for the project, and leave it in the hands my excellent staff," he said. I was going to have a hand in the project as a producer, and make titles other than MGS."
"But, I set the game in the South American [sic] country of Costa Rica and created a story with themes about nuclear deterrence and The Cold War. It looked as if it might be very confusing to young people, because of generational differences. So, in the end I finally said, 'I'll do it.'"
For those of you out of the loop, Rising will star sliver-haired hero Raiden of MGS2 fame, while Peace Walker will place you in the shoes of infamous action man Big Boss. We’ll have more info on both games as it becomes available to us.

i'm glad to hear that kojima is more involved with MGSR than we thought. Also i don't think it's a bad idea that they're re doing the engine either. MGS4 was their first project on ps3 and thought it turned out amazing they did run into difficulties and now that they have a more refined knowledge of how the system works they can build a better engine using that knowledge they gained from the last go round. It wouldn't surprise me if it did look better than mgs4 due to this fact.

Yeah it's just that Microsoft added in the contract with Konami "Mr Kojima will proclaim he will be deeply involved in MGS R" so that Microsoft can sell some more consoles and not lose people who would buy PS3s, like they did with Lost Planet, Eternal Sonata, Bioshock (...) where the producers had to lie saying "the game will NEVER be released on PS3" and we all know they were all released on PS3.
We have a law in France (unfair competition) that prevents such acts : when a company pays off a producer/distributor/purveyor to gain an advantage on his competitors, he'll get a fine and the products can be withdrawn from sale.
New game engine? maybe because the X360 couldn't hold the PGS4 engine.

I think putting any hate on this project is not fair. The 360 is still a good console and we all know Kojima is the best in the business. Its a shame we will have to wait for a solid game like MGS4 that uses the whole blue-ray disk but that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy I got to experience MGS4.

@ #11
I guess I'd be cheering too if I was lock-step supporting a machine that's not backed with enough talent or industry experience to launch enough big franchises on it's own ;)
Oh noez, the Sony fanboys are losing an exclusive.. Go ahead and put MGS4 in your 360 if you want to tlak that here..

Okay, now I'm starting to get really annoyed with this guy. So who's next? Tetsuya nomura announcing to the world that he will be porting final fantasy versus XIII to the xbox 360 and he would be deeply involved with it? Or announcing that kingdom heart 3 going multiplatform? I am really sick of multiplatforms. There's too many of them.

I don't get some of you people.
Seriously, stop being such crybabies and downplay Rising, when 1) you haven't played it, 2) don't know much about it and 3 ) are just jelous that other people will enjoy it, too!
In the end the game is still coming to the PS3, and I really doubt that Kojima will make any sort of sacrifices. The guy is a perfectionist, he will get the best out of an Atari, 360, PC and PS3 if he needs to. He will not release an unfinished product. As far as the 360 fan are concerned, please, you're only getting to enjoy a side-story with us and still are not getting the masterpiece that is known as MGS4. Think before you start insulting.

"The entire team is serious about making it look AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE ON EVERY PLATFORM." This kinda sounds like they are utilizing each system and they may not look and play the same. Since PS3 is more powerful.

"more" deeply then a normal producer. as in, maybe hes just laying out a framework. he said himself earlier that hes letting the young bloods handle this one. being a MGS title though of cource hes going to have his handi n it, doesnt mean hes directing or writing it, which so far we have been led to believe he isnt. im sure its still just going to be a spin off and not central MGS canon

A game which isn't even an exclusive or lives up to the full MGS title? Get over your selves before you get banned for flamebaiting

@2 i totally agree, im not going to go out and buy a psp just to play peace walker. it should be on PS3, and if 360 fanboys want it so bad on their crappy system, fine, give them the 12 disc special but dont compromise the PS3 version (not like its on PS3 but my point still stands)

Meanwhile at Konami HQ.
Kojima San: I have told everyone that I'm deeply involved with Metal Gear Rising.
Konami: Gooooood. Now that will put the fanboys at ease. They will only buy a Kojima San Metal Gear title!
Kojima San: But Konami San, won't they realise it's not up to my usual standards after they buy it?
Konami: Exactly Kojima, exactly! Now get back to work on Peacewalker!

This is completely wrong!! You are saying that he wanted to take a "backseat" on Peace Walker on the fourth paragraph, but he can't since is in the 1970 " cold war" mentioned on the six paragraph there's no way Rising can be on the cold war in the 1970 Raiden will have to be a baby if he was born at that timeline which I think not. So he's talking about Peace Walker not Rising unless Rising features time traveling!

There was an article on psu a week ago that said he was gona let the young bloods take care of it! Anyone remember?
