Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi has admitted that he doesn’t expect to head a possible sixth installment in the popular survival horror franchise, a sentiment also shared by his fellow Resident Evil 5 co-producer, Masachika Kawata.

Speaking at the San Diego Comic Con this week, Takeuchi said, “it doesn't appear as though either of us is going to be in charge,” before humorously remarking that both he and Kawata were "playing blackjack to decide who is going to be stuck with the responsibility".

The most recent entry in the series, Resident Evil 5, hit shops in March 2009 and eventually went on to shift a staggering five million copies worldwide, making it the most successful RE title to date. Talk on a follow up has been floating around the web over the past couple of months, with many fans anticipating a complete series revamp. Despite this, Capcom has yet to reveal anything concrete on the matter.

Stay tuned.

Maybe they'll get bored with numbered sequels and the next one will be RE:World at War or something like that.

Hopefully the next one will be more like 4 (as in actually creepy; running around in the brightly lit desert is not creepy). I got the platinum trophy for re5 tho.

Well it sounds to me like they are both afraid, because they would have to come up with a NEW idea.

If they're smart, they'll go back to the days of zombies, S.T.A.R.S and Umbrella.

@8 and 9 If the reboot proves to be too great a challenge, Releasing a remake of those titles makes sense. I don't think it would be disk based as many have played those games before, I'd expect a PSN release.

If there was to be another RE, I think the main character should be Hunk. A side story/prequel thats follows Hunk through Raccoon City to obtain the G- Virus from Birkin. This idea has lots of potential. Who's with me?

Heres a crazy idea, resident evil world infection, a on-line game in a virtual world with millions of zombies were you can join teams of 5, 10, 20, 50 people (changing the diificulty with the numer of group members), to kill all the zombies! plus you can have options like if one team members gets infected you can choose to kill him or try to save him, if you become a zombie you'll be able to lead a group of un-dead to attack the living! Even have a choice of character, medic, soldier, etc!

I reinvented 3rd person perspective with fixed cameras would be a good thing imo. What made the first 2 so creepy was not knowing. Be it behind the next door or out the window. I love RE4 and RE5 is ok, but the FPS style is just not scary. Also a return to zombies and zombie animals would be nice.
