Japanese publication Famitsu Weekly has divulged further details on the bonus content featured in Capcom’s upcoming wand-waggling Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition.
As expected, the bonus game included in the revamped horror title is set within the confines of the Spencer Mansion as depicted in RE5’s flashback sequence, and stars BSAA agents Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Strikingly evocative of the mansion found in the original Resident Evil, Spencer’s humble abode is apparently rigged with an assortment of traps, and will also feature enemies of some description, though Capcom didn’t go in to any further details on the matter. Fingers crossed that our rotting zombie friends make a triumphant return, eh?
Apparently, the main hall of the sprawling estate is splattered with blood, indicating that an incident has taken place, will become clear as gamers advance through the game. The developer also acknowledged that the franchise has rustled up varying tastes among its fan base over the years, and believes that this side game will feature the type of locations that fans are expecting. As with the original RE5, players will be able to tackle the game solo or team up in co-op mode.
Furthermore, the game will last around 2 hours, with producer Jun Takeuchi telling the magazine he managed to plough through it in around 1 hour and 40 minutes – but that’s because he’s hardcore, naturally. According to Takeuchi, the bonus content was too big to be released as downloadable content and will, despite earlier speculation, be made available for Xbox 360 in addition to Sony’s platform.
Elsewhere, it was confirmed that those who own the original version of RE5 can transfer their Trophies and game saves to the Alternative Edition, which includes all existing DLC from the original game, such as the Versus mode. Capcom is also flirting with the idea of including additional costumes and game modes in the game aside from what has already been announced.
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is scheduled for release in Japan next spring. Stay tuned for more details as they become available (hopefully we'll have some scans for you later today).

Don't forget that it will include "Magic Wand" support. Might be worth mentioning...

@8 Im sure I read somewhere that it was too big a file for them to release as DLC, so it's a re release with extras.

It wont be released as DLC as MS have size restrictions on downloads. And Capcom wouldn't be able to bring something out for PS3 and not the xbox.
Plus when ever have Capcom not milked a game. I wish they would just kill off Resi. Where can they go next. (spoiler warning) They killed Wesker for crying out loud. 5 was absolute rubbish.
They need to release a collection of 1-4 with updated graphics and control schemes.

RE5 is my first RE game - I am enjoying going through the game doing split screen co-op with a buddy - this new edition should be made avaialable to people that already own the game somehow without having to buy it again - which I won't be doing.
Silly really.

I hope it's downloadable and compatible with the normal dualshock controller. I have no interest in wii ripoff antics or buying this game all over again. I'm not against motion controls, but I don't want a bunch of generic knock off and lame accessories coming out for what is essentially a trend in gaming currently.

They should take it back completely old school style. Do you guys realise how pre-renderd backgrounds would look this gen that are set at specific cam angles? Try to remember how good the series looked just on the gamecube.

OH HFLL NO.
Sorry crapcom. Not buying the same game a second time for something that you COULD put up as DLC. WTF? we have DEMOs larger than this add on will likely be. They already got 65 bucks for a 60 dollar game I'm not handing over MORE for the same game with an extra level.

LOL, I just got rid of my copy of RE5. Even though I should have done that a long time ago. The game sux!! There's no way I'd buy it again. Especailly not for some "exclusive" content that only lasts 2 hours. Especailly being judged on a length by someone deemed as "hardcore". I'm sure if he could do it in 1 hour and 40 minutes, then most of us could tie or beat that. Sorry Capcom, I'm done with the whoooole RE series. Too bad it used to be one of my favorite too.

I think Capcom didn´t add this new chapter and the new features from the beginnig because they run out of space on the dvd and they wanted both version be exactly the same.

i believe it could be cool if single player is actually single player. the co-op is cool when u got a friend but when u play single player then wtf u want that bizznizzle following u around the whole game. it completely takes away from the horror when u have crappy AI following u around the whole game, whose sole purpose it seems to me is to revive u when u die. what a way to make it survival horror. lets make it more horrifying by sending more enemies at u but give u a worthless sidekick to revive u when u die. good job capcom on coming up with a great franchise that u r willingly running into the ground for the same reason most companies mess up these days, money.
