Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has once again peered in to his crystal ball ahead of the latest NPD Group figures, predicting that Sony’s PlayStation 3 console triumphed over both the Wii and Xbox 360 in the U.S. last month.
Pachter forecast a whopping 410,000 unit sales for Sony’s sleek black box during the month of September 2009, which equates to a year-over-year rise of approximately 76 percent for the machine.
“We estimate sell-through of 390,000 Wii hardware units (down 45% from last year), 350,000 Xbox 360 (up 1% from last year), and 410,000 PS3 consoles (up 76% year-over-year) as the price cuts for all three consoles spurred demand,” Pachter said in a note today.
It’s not just Sony who will likely benefit from some good news either. The analyst also forecast double-digit growth for the U.S. games trade, noting, “We forecast sales of $750 million, up 21% compared to last year’s $618 million.”
Stay tuned for full NPD hardware figures next Thursday.

As an owner of all three systems I've been hoping the PS3 would pick up sales because there really hasn't been that much I've enjoyed playing, if it weren't for Ratchet I probalby would not have picked it up to begin with but things look to be picking up which means developers will come back.
I did the Beta for the new Xbox Live interface and as an Xbox fanboy was VERY dissapointed. I kept saying on the boards that HOME would eventually kill Xbox. It's got a ways to go but I think the fact that it is free and more interesting then just navigating menus is a big plus. Welcome back Sony, don't screw it up again!

@ 3 I agree with some of your points but to be honest Sony has been giving a stream of exclusive PS3 games while MS offering pretty much died after GoW2/Fable 2, except for a milk title called Halo Wars and the expansion sold at full price called ODST.. almost a year apart too.

@3 Your joking about the games right? There are tons of awesome PS3 exclusives that I loved... Most of my games that I own are PS3 exclusive. Also, Ratchet and Clank was a lot of fun (I borrowed it from a friend). Also, about the developers coming back... Did they leave? Because I didn't notice.

Ok, long post but bare with me:)
There have been a few people saying I must be joking when it comes to my dissapointment is the lack of quality PS3 exclusives. For me this is very true. Resistance, Killzone, Little Big Planet and Infamous were all games I bought and sold within a week or two. On the other hand series like Mass Effect (my favorite game of this generation), Gears of War, Halo, Fable, Left 4 Dead along with the downloadable content across some very big AAA titles are all examples of games that make the difference to me.
I don't have anything to earn by PS3 not having games I have not liked. I bought the system so I would like to see more. I'm excited for Heavy Rain, Ratchet Future, GOW3. I must also say that Mod Nation looks like it will take over my life when it comes out. Keeping my fingers cross to see Jak and Daxter or Sly as well. My favorite genre on PS2 was survival horror, something that is almost non-existent. Heck, I'm still praying for Fear Effect 3:)
People are just going to have to accept that some people just don't like all AAA titles. I still put Ratchet and Clank in my top 5 of this generation, many would disagree. Just as many would disagree when I say Killzone 2 is one of the prettiest games out there, too bad it controls like a dump truck.

@21 - I think that is why I hate on Killzone so much. It's VERY frustrating that a game that beautiful has such terrible controls. In fact I would say it has some of the worst controls of any FPS I've ever played. That's a big deal when you see the attention paid to the visuals.
