Ubisoft talks WWII setting for Assassin's Creed III

Ubisoft’s Sébastien Puel has revealed that the developer has toyed with the idea of setting Assassin’s Creed III in World War II, with players hopping in to the shoes of a female assassin.
“We’ve had discussions on that very topic,” Puel told Xbox 360 World. It could be really interesting but we’d need to find the right time period and place for that.
“Where would that make sense? We don’t want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period, but if you’re talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting.”
Elsewhere, creative director Patrice Fortier also chipped in, suggesting that the franchise could conceivably expand well beyond a third installment:
“What’s so great about Assassin’s Creed is that we can just expand and expand. I’m often asked if we’re doing a third game after ACII… I mean, we could do 35 of these,” said Fortier.
Assassin's Creed II is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 17.

Lol, I agree # 1 way too much WW2 publicity. Maybe another war perhaps? Maybe the Civil War or the Revolutionary War?

They could just set it in the French Revolution, dunno the exact time, but it'll sure make a fun place to explore.

OK, I can't stress how heavily I don't mean to be sexist here, but I really, really, don't want to play as a female assassin - and this is based solely on the natural aesthetics of the 'free-running' element of the game (although it's technically parkour; free-running is a different sport entirely!). I've seen women attempting to free-run, and it doesn't look good. It doesn't look right. The same way seeing women footballers doesn't look as polished as men's football; it's because of their biological build-up. Men are built up to have a greater proportion of muscle than women. It's a biological fact. That's why the men and women compete separately in the Olympics; men have an advantage due to being physically superior. The same applies to free-running and parkour. Due to a more muscle-based build up, it just looks more natural and polished to see men freerun. Traceuses just can't pull off the aesthetical satisfaction that men can because of their inferior muscular build-up. Therefore I believe it isn't as aesthetically pleasing to see women attempt to free-run, hence I feel a women should not star as the assassin in Assassin's Creed III.
But onto the bigger picture; the World War 2 theme. What made me love Assassin's Creed so much was the medieval theme. I loved the setting and I loved the atmosphere, from the very first trailer. And because of that, it will always be one of my favourite games of all time. I believe Assassin's Creed II will be bigger and better in every way; except for the atmosphere. It will be a brilliant setting, but after the initial impact of the original, I don't feel anything can compare to its atmosphere. A war themed Assassin's Creed would ruin the series, in my opinion, and although it's a brilliant concept to be a war-time assassin, I don't think it should fit in to the story of Assassin's Creed. Maybe as a separate series, it'll be great - just like Infinity Ward are launching Modern Warfare as a separate series - but combined with the inital concept of Assassin's Creed, I don't believe it will work. Admittedly it is a good idea, and I'd like such a game to exist; but please, not in the Assassin's Creed universe. It is good, however, to see that they are considering the possibilites of expanding past a trilogy. I always assumed the original series would end at the third. I'd love to still be playing new installments in the years to come.
I personally (and only recently came to this idea) think that an 'Olde England' theme will be, assassinating people throughout Londonjust a couple of hundred years ago. It seems like a good setting, and (although it will lose its originality here) the game can build around the story of Jack the Ripper - or just not directly refer to it, but introduce subtle links that the player can associate with it.
Just please, continue with a male protagonist.
@13: You can't hate the series if you've only played one game.

@19 that's plain silly...I prefer playing as a female character over a male anyday. Girls rock! and your argument over 'Free Running' is indeed sexist. Hey, your opinion buddy...like the London setting tho...maybe in the Tudor/Victorian era.
Ps...Jack the ripper game is being developed, so you may get what your looking for interms of setting...and I believe The Ripper was definitely male? lol

I love her end quote, and by love I mean disdain. "We could make 35 of these", yeah that's just what we need another watering down of an IP by over saturating the market with uninspired redundant iterations.
No thank you. Just make ACII wrap up the story in ACIII and walk away feeling happy in your accomplishment and make a new IP.

Don't be an idiot..
Beasley2K speaks the truth.
If women want to be physically on par then I say we have women compete with men in boxing, UFC, kickboxing, etc...
Oh that's right.. it doesn't work that way now does it?

WWII is too soon for ACIII. I would suggest the Napoleonic period as a better time to set ACIII then with ACIV you could move it on to WWI and ACV could then be set in WWII. After that you could go for today and then some time in the near future. AC should carry on for ages that way.

Not another ww2 game. Just cause medal of honor made a lot of money doesn't mean companies have to milk the time period. Games that take place in ww2 are just down right depressing.

WWII setting why? why not in japan with samurais, ninjas and stuff? It must always in Europe for some reason...
And a female assassin? why just dont they make 2 playable assassins (male and a female one of course) with slightly diferent paths?
Wait that was already made...(tenchu) but i would prefer playing a AC with a samurai japan setting than a WW2 setting.

Please please please no. I like it better this way in the 1400's. IF you do it in WW2 its gonna be like shooting a German you need to kill leave it the way it is.

Wow, the arrogance of these pecks is amazing. "We could do 35 of these!" and you can bet they sure as heII are going to try it. I am in shock at just how brazen some of these devs are lately, and now they openly admit that they are more than willing to just keep cashing in on repitition. And a female assasin in WWII setting? You mean like a Velvet Assasin? Ubisoft...never see a cent from me.

mata hari tyoe hero? or the real mata hari, but AC style...no, I'll pass..I want a man! a manly man! as homo as that sounds...I don't like it when women are the heroes, it tones down my enjoyment....it's not the same without a manly man who can handle his big sword rofl
