According to an email sent to consumers from Sony Computer Entertainment UK, the PlayStation 3 Starter Pack could be phased out in the territory from as early as this summer, despite the firm stating it has no plans to do so in light of the recent announcement for Australian markets.
As reported yesterday on PSU, the Starter Pack is due to be discontinued in Australian territories from August 31st; however, SCEE later told Gamesindustry.biz that the bundle would remain on sale throughout other PAL territories for the foreseeable future.
Despite this, an email sent to customers who expressed frustration over purchasing the original GBP 425 SKU before the Starter Pack was announced seems to indicate otherwise: “I was sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with regards to the launch of the PlayStation 3 Starter Pack. I would like to take this opportunity to stress that this is a summer promotion and that due to the nature of this offer it will end on a predetermined date", it reads.
Again, however, the company reiterated plans to maintain the Starter Pack in the UK, telling Gamesindustry.biz the bundle offering, "will continue for the foreseeable future". Stay tuned for more information here at PSU as it breaks.
Given the ambiguity of the situation, we at PSU would advise anyone in the UK (or other PAL territories for that matter) thinking about taking the plunge for this deal to snap it up as soon as possible - just in case. As ever, we'll continue to bring you all the latest information on the situation as it becomes available.
