Sony: Resistance 2 to go "toe-to-toe" with Gears 2

Scott Steinberg, Vice President of Product Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), has said that he expects Insomniac’s forthcoming Resistance 2 to go "toe-to-toe against Gears of War 2” when both games launch later this year.
Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, Steinberg commented, I think one of the biggest games for us will be Resistance 2. We expect that, in November, to go toe-to-toe against Gears of War 2.”
"It will be our third-generation PS3 product. Insomniac, having shipped Resistance 1, quietly sold a million units. And then Ratchet & Clank last fall. This is the third on their technology shipping in November."
He also offered insight into Sony’s relatively low profile at the Game Developers Conference last week, adding, “It just felt stronger coming from so many different high-calibre partners as opposed to self-congratulatory announcements from ourselves that the war is over and the standards battle is complete, and we have a standard and it is us.”
"It just felt like a keynote would be a little bit over the top,” he said.

Pshaw...as much as i enjoyed Resistance...it didn't hold a candle to the Multiplayer on gears...and then when COD4 came out it got washed away.
I'm hopeful but I don't see it taking down Gears 2...but having said that...I'll buy both and make my own mind up...

I take it this means the UK wont be seeing Res2, UNTILL 2159 or some thing just as insulting, but on the bright side, the US will be getting it tomorrow. Oh no, my mistake they already got it a year ago ! ! ! For those that r getting confused its called sarcasm ( with just a touch of getting sick of bein fecked up the a*$ on a regular basis ) ! ! ! ! ! !

Resistance 2 will have to be utterly perfect to beat Gears of War 2. I love both series, and I'm definitely buying both these games, but every one of you know that Gears of War is an amazing game. Resistance 2 is definitely looking really good from those screen shots, but even if it is the best FPS on PS3, Gears of War is just really fun and addictive. Anyone who says Resistance sucks are being arrogant and criticising a good game that isn't perfect, just like anyone who says Gears of War sucks is being a PS3 fanboy and not realizing a good game. Imo, Gears is better, and not much can be done about it. It's the way the cover system is, the weapons, the story. Just Gears itself

Agreed inflamed, the hype machine for gears will be huge. I think resistance may be a better game, but it wont sell more.

I personally thought Gears was pants on-line. The single player was good and the chainsaw machine gun rocked, however I wouldnt have played it through a number of times if it wasnt for Gamerscore (sad I know). Resistance 2 is gonna kick some butt!

oh you got that right, a fanboy battle royale is coming soon due to these AA titles coming soon. IMO gears will win due to the hype and great cover system, and bigger install base are xbox360, resistance has a better campaign but lack online play superiority over GeOW, but with this new way they are intertwine the online gameplay with 60 players online, i would like to see how they would make this work and fun at the same time.
Chances are gears is going to make their co-op campaign either 4 or 8 as well with more online but not 60 people probably 16 or 24.
all in all both are great games that are going to sell well from both camps from fan boy loyalists.

well if gears 2 is anything like gears 1 its gonna be glitchy as f@!k. but i think they are using their new updated Unreal engine which i must say isnt too impressive when compared to some of ps3's exclusive engines like naughty dogs which is a good few months old now. i think insomniac will nail it this time and hopefully show up that dreadful m$ machine. edit: the cover system in gears isnt tht great at all i found it to be ok but could easily have been done better, again i thought uncharteds was better.

nothing wrong with these 2 games going at each other. i do think Gears will be the better game(sells aside). but we will have to see what is done with resistance though. i think they will try to make the 60player thing have a more war like feel to it. cant wait for both games. i kinda would like to see killzone go head-to-head with gears since it also has a cover system. gears2 will not be 24 players. the game was fine with 4 on a team so ill say 16players max. too many players would ruin gears.

ALL in all we would have to wait and see, but I take it they both are going to be taking gameplay from each other the concept is pretty much the same, just different time zones. KillZone 2 is more likely to go up against GeOW 2 I rather have resistance go up against Halo, as far as sales numbers, i'm guessing 450,000 @ launch. with resistance and 700,000 for GeOW.

It is nice, the direction they are trying to take with online gaming. However, they need to remember those who either do not have an internet hook up or have a slow internet to work with. Gears only had two player deathmatch offline. I was hardly impressed with that. We've been through Perfect Dark/GoldenEye, TimeSplitters, Halo. How is a four player deathmatch offline not standard in FPSs. These are the little things that could put one game atop the other. I think that both will be good games, but let's not put them in the realm of the greatest if they truly do not live up to it.

All of u guys know that gow2 will win in sales by a mile, im not taking sides but i realy love Rfom2 i think its a great game but gow2 has everything behind its back, it has a huge fan basis, and marketing stratagies plus it has microsoft pumping out millions to make it win i dont know how Rfom2 will fare against this respectable opponent but i know that this will b a great fight. P.S MGS4 will still b #1 in my book

Even though I'm a PS3 guy, I will admit that there is no way in the world that Resistance 2 is going to outsell Gears of War 2. Gears of War 2 sold over 3 million copies in 10 weeks and it sold 4.5 million copes total.
For some reason, a lot of people bashed on the first Resistance and didn't really think it was a good shooter, but I really liked it. If Resistance 2 wants to even have a chance of outselling Gears of War 2, more PS3's will have to be sold.
I think that a lot of PS3 gamers just aren't into the whole Shooter thing in games, especially Japanese gamers. The Playstation consoles have never really been known for top selling shooters though. I'm not putting down Resistance 2, or Sony I'm just telling the truth. The only PS3 game that I think even has a chance of outselling Gears 2 this year is Metal Gear Solid 4.
But hopefully Resistance 2 will get a good reception by PS3 gamers. It's one of the PS3's biggest games this year, so it should get a good reception.

hahahahahahaha, resistance 2 might try and stand toe-to-toe against gears 2, but expect a first round KO of resistance 2 by gears 2 after about 15 seconds, lol. There is no possible way that resistance could topple gears. Fanboys please take 5 cause you're living in fantasy land if you think resistance > Gears is possible.

I thought Reistance had a better story line than Gears personally however I will say the online was better due to the cover system. However, it wasn't like RFoM's online was a complete waste either. I put in hours of good times. Its just RFoM's online is more old school run and gun where as gears had a bit of a sneak element to it.

I'm sorry, but as good as Resistance 2 is, it will not outsell Gears. Gears is just like Halo. The biggest game on the box, and Sony has a lot of huge titles. Not trying to troll anything, but this is my take on it. I personally am rooting for Resistance 2 though.

Wow so if they release the same month thats ok , but if its the same day it would be nice for the sales of both. But having more players online i think resistance 2 will win on that as for single player gameplay gears 2 may win, single player story both games may win.

I see GOW2 selling more if MS knows how to do something it's buidl hype (remeber Halo 3), Sony will really need to plan out marketing like crazy. Also for those who said the GOW had a great online I despised it, really I never saw it as anything good, but then again I did play Resistance 1 before that and got used to the 40 player online. I doubt that GOW2 will have a better online than Resistance 2 or a better storyline (last one was pretty short compared to Resistance), but hype will play a big factor

I believe that Resistance 2 will be better that gears of war 2....look how many things they have upgraded(from 2player coop to 8!, from 40 players online to 60, even from 1 campaign to 2 full campaigns)gears of war 2 hasn't upgraded -NOTHING!(just as halo the same game but with a different story), but i still think gears of war 2 will win because in the other hand there are more fanboys of gears of war than resistance.....I LOVE GEARS OF WAR TOO!, but people always see some games as the big thing(just like halo=the game is slow pase and it gets really boring if u play it like 2 hours staight-HALO)....people just see resistance as another FPS......i remember that someone told me once that resistance is a replica of halo.....i even cried laughing!LOL
