Ray Maguire, Managing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment UK (SCE UK), has praised the efforts of the company's trade partners in helping to establish the PlayStation 3 in the region, where it recently passed the one million sales barrier.
Speaking to MCV UK, Maguire stated, “Achieving one million PS3 sales faster than both PSOne and PlayStation 2 is even more gratifying considering PS3 is a premium product introduced at a premium price.”
Optimistic for the future, Maguire pointed to a number of forthcoming attractions on PS3, also hinting at a release date for the highly anticipated in-game XMB.
“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios.”
“I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey,” he concluded.

X5_Hundred may have a valid point there. The implementation of Home will allow all the functionality of in-game XMB I suspect (just not called "in-game XMB"?). Sony would rather you browse Home to interact with friends and colleagues, invite games etc all the while tempting you and your mates with other pay-for services? Pure specualtion of course, but would partially explain the delay in introducing a feature that must SURELY be relatively easy to implement from such platform developers as Sony??

They always say someone '' hints '' something and it either gets delayed or its not quite exactly what they thought was hinted. I'm not gonna give my hopes up... again.. I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't agree fully with H3LiX and X5_Hundred. While Home will sure replace a lot of XMB functionality I still think that we'll need something like In-Game XMB to be able to access our mp3 collection from inside a game or read/write messages. Cause the only thing I want is to be able to play my own music inside a game and communicate with people on my friend list. The rest of the XMB is not interesting to me.
And I'm not sure Home can do this for me, really.

Ephacris, as I say it's pure speculation of course. I also hope there's a genuine XMB update, but thinking about it, they could achieve the same functionality as you mention using Home, who knows. Take the following scenario for example: Effectively when booting up your PS3, instead of being presented with Sony's XMB you could be placed directly into Home (if you enable that function?). From here you can Invite your friends to play directly, and as you say, during a game, maybe pull up Home's PSP interface (replacing in-game XMB?) and select which custom music you want to play. Of course, this is all off the top of my head but I'm just illustrating that in game XMB can be implemented in another way. I personally dont mind which way as long as it's quick and easy. Thinking about it from a business perspective, Sony could effectively force people to use Home (which is no bad thing as you're not FORCED to buy anything) but it makes excellent advertising and sales opportunities aswell as raising awareness of new and upcoming PS3 titles etc etc etc. The use of Home is limitless if they know what they're doing.

Wow we're in for a wait. But hey- at least we know it's on it's way! If I can happily wait, with much anticipation though, for MGS4 come Summer, I'm sure I can wait for this one too (I'm going to have to anyway lol.) We will now have a kicking summer through Haze, MGS4- story and online-, and In-Game XMB. Hopefully it'll let us listen to custom tracks as well as hold voice chat with buddies on friends list while playing games. Hopefully it'll be the best update.

www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4755645 This link will guide you through the EASY process of getting a brand new retail Playstation 3! Here is how it works! First and foremost this is NOT like those other offers you see all over the web, where you are required to sign up for a million "free" offers that end up taking forever and costing you a bunch of money and a headache. You click this link and sign up for their referral program. That’s it! Once you sign up for your ONE required offer you use the link they provide you and post it on forums, or send it to friends, and if someone uses that link to sign up and complete one offer of their own, you get a referral. Here is the cost breakdown of the referral system. 8 Referrals = New retail 40gb PS3 10 Referrals = New retail 60gb PS3 12 Referrals = New retail 80gb PS3 and ONE game of your choice 14 Referrals = New retail 80gb Ps3 and two games YOU CHOSE (includes new releases like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune or Ratchet and Clank Future etc…) Plus many more PS3 offers and others including up to $475 in CASH I have been a member for 3 days and have 10 completed referrals on my account, well on my way to my chosen 14 (Already enough for a 60gb or 40gb PS3). I also have 250 people, who have signed up; if any 4 of them complete an offer I have my Ps3 and two games. It can take up to 3 days for a completed offer to process, so I may have already reached my goal. The company even covers shipping and handling so there is no hidden costs of ANY KIND. This website even has you create an account so you can track your progress the entire way through, and once your package ships, they supply a UPS tracking link. It is extremely user friendly I recommend you research this company online, as they are proven legitimate and not in any way a scam. EGM magazine actually did a story on them 2 years ago to see if they were legit and did in fact get a free system, so they proved it worked! The way it is possible is these sponsor's pay this company money for referring people to them, and using a portion of that money, buy you a PS3 as an incentive for helping them advertise. It is a pretty nice scheme, but it results in me getting something for free so I don't care. This will be my third free thing to get from this company; I have a 360 elite and iPhone for the cost of about 5 dollars. Enjoy your free system, free isn't a bad deal for a great console and a Blu-Ray player! www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=4755645

@Deldwen... the seasons are determined by the tilt of the Earth's axis in correlation with the Sun. So, the southern hemisphere experiences winter at a different time than the northern hemisphere. Didn't you learn this in elementary school, how old are you anyway??

Let's see. We're on 2.10 and we have AT LEAST 2.20 and 2.30 before 2.40. That's not including all the small FW updates along the way.
Start the 2.40 rumors. In-game XMB, Sony unlocks the disabled core, play movies and games at the same time, rumble foot pads, free PSN cards for everyone, etc. I could go on forever.
