Rock Band is going country...seriouslySales of Nintendo consoles slowed this week in Japan according to the new Media Create numbers. The Nintendo DS fell below 100,000 for the first time this year, and the Wii slowed to about 40,000.
All of the other home and hand held consoles saw a similar slump except for Sony's PlayStation 3, which saw sales jump to about 18,000 for the week. The jump in sales is probably related to the debut of the Koei title Bladestorm for the PS3, which sat at number two on the all console charts this week, just below Final Fantasy Chronicles: Ring of Fates.
Like all other "gains" by Sony in Japan so far, the PS3 is still behind the Wii for total sales this week, meaning that Sony didn't actually gain ground. What it appears they may be gaining however heading into the holiday season is momentum.
Stay tuned to PSU for any further information.

WOOOOOO!!! PS3 FTW ~~~
Wii slows too a trickle of a measley 40,000 units whilst PS3 goes balistic and surges to a massive 18,000 units sales! lol. It's funny this "spin" stuff. Can't wait for some substance.
sony will be fist in sales.they always do.just wait and see.
let´s hope that ps3 gains momentum for the holidays in the rest of the world !!!
Its going to be hard to beat the Wii and for one good reason, casual gaming has a bigger audience than your hardcore PS/XBOX audience. For this reason I don't really put the wii in the same class as the PS. So the PS3 jumping to 18,00 in one week given its price point isn't shabby
At the moment I can only see MGS 4 being the big sales driver. I didnt really enjoy Killzone on PS2 so Im undecided about Killzone 3 as I've become suspicious these days of any over hyped games. Personally, I'm hoping they have two or three increadible games that come out of the blue and surprises us this Christmas. That would be great.
Agree 18,000 all considering is probably good - but it means we are still being left in the dust far behind everyone else. A decent price drop and some awsome games will fix that though - it's just the waiting time is unfortunate.
It use to be the wii outselling the ps3 6:1, now it is only outselling the ps3 around 2:1. One more price drop and a few more big releases on the ps3 and the game is over!
psn id: gingo.... good, i knew the wii wouldn't last much longer but it's still outselling the ps3 by a good margin
I echo your comments. One great price drop for the PS3 and it will be game over for Wii and 360!!!
Nintendo sales slump? Sony surge? Aha ha ha ha. I'm pretty sure, even for Japan, there isn't an infinite demand for the Wii and DS. Once you have a Wii, what else is left? A RROD? No, the other Japanese console. Unless people continually buy a replacement console for the next few years, the demand show slow down considerably. There are only so many people in Japan. Even fewer without a Wii or DS.
Everyone has a Wii already so where are all these Wii's going? Im kind of tempted to get one. Having said that, Im becoming more & more tempted to splash out and focus more on PC gaming from now on.The lineup is pretty strong: Crysis, Bioshock, Starcraft 2, QuakeWars, UT3, Hallgate London, Supreme Commander, Call of Duty 4, HL2 Orange Box, World Conflict, Incecticide, Fallout 3, Spore, Heavy Duty ---- Plus I could get Gears of War, and Devil May Cry 4.... PC seems to be getting lots of action. This way I dont need to buy a XBox 360 afterall.
Nice. Every step up the latter is a good step. Anywhoo Console and Pc are 2 different things for me. The PS3 is my console pick, but it wont stop me playing my Pc.
