Sony Europe trademarks Panopticon, strange symbol

Sony Computer Entertainment recently filed trademarks for something called “Panopticon” and a strange, red-and-gray symbol in Europe.

The symbol’s services list suggests it could be used for some sort of online service.

Computer software; video games; electronic games; computer software for video games or for games machines, electronic devices for the wireless receipt, storage and/or transmission of data and messages; computer software for conducting and coordinating real-time and asynchronous communications among computer users sharing information and audio/video data via electronic communications networks; downloadable electronic publications; downloadable computer game software; user-generated video recordings; Software for use with handheld video game apparatus.

Providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages relating to computer and video games among players of computer and video games; providing on-line access to computer networks, computer databases, the internet, virtual worlds and libraries of text, graphics and audio-visual and multimedia information all for the purpose of playing computer and video games.

On-line gaming and entertainment services; organising of games, providing of an on-line gaming service enabling physically remote players of an electronic game to search on-line for other players and to communicate with selected players during the game.

Hosting on-line web facilities for interactive game play.

Introduction and social networking services, namely introducing electronic game players to others.
The trademark for Panopticon, which is Greek for “seeing everything,” sounds more like it could be a game or application.

Computer and video games; computer games software; computer software downloadable from the internet; computer software for hand held computer games equipment; computer game software for mobile phones; video game cartridges; memory cards; data storage devices; downloadable electronic publications; electronic games; parts and fittings for all the above.

Someone also mentioned it being the logo for Guerrilla Cambridge.
Thanks to Kwes for the signature!
