Digital Extremes: PS4 is a dream to work with we love it

The Darkness II developer Digital Extremes has only been working on the PlayStation 4 for about three months, but it’s already pieced together a build of its upcoming free-to-play shooter Warframe for the platform. It’s that kind of efficiency that’s prompted the studio to fall in love with the hardware, which creative director Steve Sinclair has described as “kickass”.

“[The PS4] is a dream to work with,” he said in an interview with IGN. “The architecture is amazing, and the unified memory is incredible. It allows us to do general purpose threading, and the GPU is absolutely kickass. The game’s running at 1080p, and that’s just after three months with the [development] kit. We love it.”

And judging by the short snippets of footage embedded below, we’re going to fall in love with Warframe, too. The free-to-play shooter is currently in open beta on the PC, but it looks absolutely gorgeous running on Sony’s next generation system. We're fascinated by the release’s fusion of fast-paced melee combat and third-person shooting, and we must admit that it’s got us gagging for a go.

It’s a good thing, then, that the game will be available to download on launch day. “Although Sony hasn’t told us the day and date [of the PS4’s launch], Warframe will be available day one,” Sinclair added. “We’re not launch window, we’re a launch title. We’re going to be there when the console is in your hands.” We actually can’t wait.

Although I haven't unlocked the fancy marble mansions but I think this game will play better with a controller too Its a bit too much for me on keyboard and I often mess up attempts to look badass :P
A great game though that will be awesome to play on ps4

I cant wait to play it. Looks amazing. Runs so fast and smooth even with all the killer particle effects and all kinds of stuff going on all in 1080p resolution.

It does look pretty slick. That's only 3 months with the dev kit? I mean, I'm no expert, but that seems pretty good going

Dat unified memory will definitely simplify development.

The best thing about Warframe is that it has a single player mode too.

To be honest, Warframe is not a very demanding game. To say they got it up and running at 1080p already is not much of a surprise.

Always nice to have another F2P MMO on the PS4, seems like the platform is becoming a central home to the F2P model this generation which IMO is great for gamers, especially if the publishers allow for non PS+ subscribers.

I didn't know it was made by the developers who made The Darkness. Now I just got interested in it

Does anyone know if it costs anything to play online?

Why is that difficult to believe? Your PC game depends on the specs you have.

Topic: It may not be that impressive seeing this game at 1080p and 60fps but I just like the fact that developers aren't going for the look only and are going for the resolution and frame rate first.

It really depends on the budget I guess, if their budget says that the game can only look good to a certain extent then I can easily see them using the rest of the resources towards res and fps.

I'm running this game on the highest settings so I was expecting the ps4 version to be the same which is why I was surprised. I'm now interested to see whether planetside 2 will look better than the pc version on the highest settings (Always fun to log into that to admire the scenery and chaos)

Well, that depends if your card can handle all the effects on PC. Can it? Powerful enough? What graphics card do you have? Is it DX11 compliant?
