Capcom shareholders open company up to takeover possibility

    source

Newsbrief: Today, Capcom announced that at its most recent investor meeting, its shareholders voted to end the company's takeover defense -- which means that Capcom could now be acquired if a company buys up large amounts of its stock.

Many companies have defenses against a stock purchase takeover, and there are various schemes and strategies they can adopt to block a party from gaining control of the company by buying up its stock.

Capcom originally put such countermeasures in place in 2008 following a shareholder vote. This latest development won't stop the company's management from attempting to "react to make necessary measures within the admissible limits of applicable laws and regulations," the company said in its statement.

At this point I don't care for anything from capcom. The screwed up RE imo and won't even try with their own version of devil may cry.

I wonder who would want to acquire Capcom?

As far as their games are concerned, I'd be interested in how good the graphics in Resident Evil 7 could be. Surprised we didn't get a trailer at E3 this year.

Well I'd be willing to bet Nintendo doesn't want to let Monster Hunter out of their hands. So if they don't purchase capcom completely, I imagine they'll be making bids on that game.

I'd rather see the company go to a 3rd party dev like Namco Bandai for instance. Granted I'm sure someone like EA or Activision sees some of the games and realizes which ones would fit on their list of Annual release titles.

I don't think Sony would buy them, since Kaz is trying to trim the fat.

Nintendo might. They have money and Monster Hunter is big for them. And they could use any advantage for the Wii U.

Microsoft? I can see them buying Capcom just because they can. But I think it's more difficult for a foreign company to take over another company.

And then there's the other 3rd-party publishers...

Yeah, if anything Nintendo would be the one to buy them, but I doubt any of them will. Certainly not Sony. I'm thinking a merger will take place.

Yeah, I forgot about Monster Hunter.

Mega Man also has some history with Nintendo. Not to bring up old wounds but Mega Man Legends 3 was supposed to be a 3DS exclusive. More recently, the character is in the new Super Smash Bros.

Get it done Nintendo, think of the next Nintendo console with Mega Man, Resident Evil, DMC, Dead Rising, and Street Fighter exclusive. It would definitely help if third parties don't come back next console cycle.
