I joined here in 2008 and what I experienced here was quite unique this site/forum had everything to be admired I was glued to this forum at one point.

I will never forget the laughs I had with members on this site and all the arguments about which console had the biggest penis!

Wow, a lot of familiar names in the thread, I just logged in on chance (first time since 2012) and saw this thread. I had a blast for 3-4 years on this forum, making signatures for people and hosting graphics contests, but as with all things it slowly died out and I lost interest. A fleeting hello to all the old faces that see this.

I recognise a lot of names here. I fondly remember the NFL thread regs taking me under their wing to help me understand the game better.

There was that weird guy Jaeger, can't recall what he did but something was very wrong. Then there was the split when PlayStation University branched off but I think that died too. I have the worst nostalgia sometimes for this forum back in those days, it was really good.
I still follow David Wales on twitter.

You all suck, that's why

( :snicker for old times sake! )
Your name change still confuses me. Hope all is well with you and the little one (probably not so little thinking about it now)

Nothing with ever beat the subscriber thread during the ps3forums days. lethal, mali, VE, Holly, FallingBullets, Wons, F34R, Gilly - spent 4 years in Oz and never even thought to message even though I have him on FB.

We'll need a bit of pixie dust crop-dusted all over the forums.

That I can do. I have been going through an old hard drive because I'm back at my parents after COVID enforced relocation back to UK and I've found some old msn messenger chat logs from circa 2007 - utter gibberish. (although one could argue that I still talk utter gibberish)

I joined this community in 2007. I was 27 years old and forums were at their peak. This place had hundreds of members online at the same time and it was so much fun chatting, arguing, and complimenting forum members. Fun contests and my daily hot chick threads will always be something I enjoyed doing.

Sadly those hundreds of members I enjoyed talking with will most likely never read this and it is unfortunate. It is time to call it quits.

For you Bro 👍

Goddamn, I joined when I was 15 and I'll be 30 next year!

I used to be pretty active here (Blacksite/Black) but it's a shame that you can't even navigate PSU on mobile without experiencing some lag and intrusive ads. Not so bad on a regular PC, but it's still frustrating.

Anyway, I enjoyed posting with the community, participating in signature contests with the Design Squad, bumping the ban thread, and talking about games. It feels like a distant memory now... GAF reminds me a little bit of the old days in terms of it being more active, and of course it was nice to see some familiar names (Ixion, Greatness, bitbydeath, TGO, and Vulgotha who goes by Razvedka now).

I hope everyone is doing well. 2020 has been a crazy year.

You've been here almost as long as I have, which is crazy. Been here since 2004 ... since ... the literal beginning ... and it's very heartbreaking to see the state of this place now. I was one of the first Mods this site ever had ... alongside a Microsoft employee whom I've sadly forgotten their username.

Here's a super duper throwback: https://web.archive.org/web/20041130090254/http://www.ps3forums.com/

Good times. I honestly don't understand why the owners of this website don't give a flying shite about the forums and I honestly despise them for it, to be quite honest. They have been letting this place die for many, many years and they just simply couldn't care less about this place, even though this place is the very reason PSU.com even exists at all. I mean when it began it was actually two sister sites where the news articles were completely done voluntarily by forum members. I was the head editor at one point for a while. Eventually the two sister sites merged to become PSU.com (a domain that, if I remember correctly, cost 50 grand). I miss the Design Squad as well and all the other fun activities this place had to offer. I genuinely feel that this place seriously started to die when Morph and Kieran sold it off to new owners to go pursue other hobbies. Morph and Kieran were in here literally all the time posting alongside forum members. They were the owners, but they took the suggestions of everyone and applied their ideas frequently. And there was a feeling of zero transparency from the forums to the front page. Right now the forums and the front page feel like completely different entities. It's very depressing. It's not ever going to get better because the owners don't care and they never will. They don't come in here to ask anything. They act like this place doesn't exist. These stupid intrusive ads that just slap you in the face on mobile ... like the video ads ... is infuriating. They can be removed on the desktop, but the mobile experience of this site makes me want to stab out my eyes. The owners are invisible creatures living in the shadows.

I enjoyed the early years here, but this place is just a trash fire now. Activity will temporarily come back during the PS5 release, just like it did with PS4, but it will just die off again like it always has. I can't believe I've been here for almost two decades. This place is just running on nostalgia at this point. :(

Yeah, I remember the site looking like that when I joined until one of the vBulletin upgrades a year or two later. I remember the admins because of the Morpheus and cow avatars, people like Tribunal, MentallyCritical, Naxi, that one guy with the cartoon robot avatar that had the green eyes (Trinity?), and some others but it's been so long, damn.

I know we also had several different groups of active members: RPG fans, Nintendo fans, Xbox fans etc. Something I liked about the community was that it wasn't only PlayStation fans. I always felt that helped us stand out from the official PlayStation forums but some users were against that multi-platform approach to discussions. Back then, it was like, users argued about how the Xbox and Nintendo forums should be sub-forums, not forums, or just disappear altogether. It wasn't perfect but it was good enough. A lot of fanboy stuff but yeah, new management just doesn't give a shit about anything other than the news site. And it's obvious they don't pop in to give us an update because who is left to read anything? At this point they should just get it over with and shut the forums down.

I remember the threads on religion being epic on here (off-topic), I've not since come across discussion quite like that on the Internet. I like how back in 2005 if someone attempted to start a thread on religion that it would be closed and disallowed but then randomly in 2007 the mods thought okay let the games begin!

I'm going to start archiving my old posts to my local storage but I don't know the first thing about proper web archiving and post archiving. There is probably a better way than just manually coping and pasting to word processors. I'd archive some key threads like the religion one, PS3 hardware, movie rating, etc. That stupid move probably effed some things up since I only see 7 pages for every thread (seriously?).

The threads now on PSU that get the most attention and replies are ones talking about how dead the forums are.

Why does a video play in the bottom corner for every page on here? lol

I think it might be a touch late for that. I think the migration killed a huge number of the larger threads.

Check out this for a throwback - Users online is a hell of a ride - DangerousMali, Xelis, Zoibe, F34R, lethal, Minimal, just to name a few.

How long have I been a member? Late 2007 or early 2008 I think.
Not been here for a couple of years due to things and stuff.
I initially joined because I just bought a PS3 so wanted more info on games and other things. Loved playing resistance 2 co-op, grantursimo 5, uncharted, metal gear, even killzone 2 single player despite the hideous laggy controls, and I remember the many discussions defending and attacking them.
Then my PS3 got the dreaded YLOD but I followed a guide on youtube how to fix it and it did work but not forever it happened again so fixed again until the fix would no longer work so spent even more time on PC and posted lots more in the PC section.

Like part of the furniture that's moved out.

Surprised to still see you here @keefy !

I haven't logged in here since 2017 and can't remember the password to my old account but fancied dropping by and saying hello
