3G isn't attracting customers.

Ping is most likely would be the worst issue of gaming over 3G networks, I have played Wipeout online with a few people in USA and it was awful 100ms in that game is a lot.

Not to sound condescending, but even without a link, it's kind of obvious. 3G is nowhere near capable enough to have a decent enough latency for gaming. It fluctuates way too much.

There is just too many free wifi spots for me to invest into the 3g model. Maybe a few years ago when it was a little harder to find wifi anywhere but today most stores and resturants have it for free.

Don't really understand the hate on AT&T, I've had them for 2 years and haven't had any issues with them.

Agreed, and disagreed. For some games, it's fine, for others it isn't.

List of games played w/o problems on EVDO Rev A

Forza 2
Forza 3
GT5
Killzone 2
COD MW2
COD WAW
COD Black Ops
Aegis Wing
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Halo 3
Halo ODST
Halo Reach
Killzone Liberation

Those are all the games, that I can think of, that I've played on the consoles without problems.

if it ain't selling on amazon, its selling no where
That's assuming the majority of sales are made up of online sales. A great deal of them are purchased/preordered in person at a local store.
Not everyone will have that experience, especially not if millions of consumers start to use it for games like that. Another problem is with the carrier(both Verizon and AT&T), they don't seem to want the service to be used for this type of stuff(heavy gaming, large downloads, etc.).

true, i know amazon isn't the end all but normally if a game or system is in amazons top 100, top 10 it reflects on the gaming market. this has been consistent this era, such examples including mortal kombat, la noire, and more..

i say it has more to due with price than it does 3g being a gimmick but once the price dips down, 3g will be phased out or a newer sku that includes both will be out. The phone market controls the gaming market in terms of connectivity and mobile internet. in a year or two, there will be phones that are much more powerful than the vita and more phones capable of running 4g, some at reasonable prices. With newer tech, the able to tether, and the thought of another monthly mobile charge is detrimental to the 3g model.

Oh yeah, you can do it on a console. It's more feasible since you are stationary. But adding mobility to the mix makes things a lot more complicated.

If you're traveling, in and out of reception areas, it could cause some issues; definitely. However, if you're sitting in a park or something, have decent reception, it should be fine for gaming. Not allowing it to be used is just piss poor IMO.

Sony wont let it make phone calls due to the legal rulings in the Apple case.

most phones can do internet sharing so...............

Sony failed at the no phone calls thing i guess they do not trust their own security

Actually yeah, that is a good point. If you're going to do a quick game, it should be fine.

But as we all know, OLED screens in daylight are another issue in itself :p

If that's all I had, then of course I'd use it. I never WANTED to use it in the first place. It was my only option, and it worked really well for what I used it for. I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine with PSV.

The 3G option is good for someone who wants the device primarily for multiplayer gaming.

I don't. I'm more interested in the single player experience. And for those games I want to MP (Monster Hunter, for example) I'll do that in the comfort of my own home.

My biggest question is how long will a single charge last with 3G connected?

It won't necessarily be crap. It would depend on several factors, but it won't automatically be crap.

As of now, the 3g option isn't good for someone who wants the device primarily for mp gaming. The 3g connection can't be used for gaming.

3G can be used for multiplayer gaming. Maybe not for Tekkens and Unreal Tournaments that depend on inhuman reflexes, but there are plenty of genres/games that can work even with a connection that isn't as reliable as broadband.

Of course the 3G is best for the "Anywhere, Anytime" community features, so even if you get a 3G model it'd be best to try to find some Wifi hotspots for actual gaming purposes. But yeah, it's not like the speed isn't enough. The only problem are the reliability issues and at best of times even that isn't a big problem.

I don't see how cross platform between PSV and PS3 will happen then.

My cousin has 3G internet, he could barely even download a patch for his game. A 15mb patch took 45mins on 3g..and was later dropped because the servers reset somehow:lol:

I have 768k, and that's better than what he has, which is verizon MiFi is what I think they call it.

Unless google partners with Sony for a browser, no one is going to what to use it:lol:

Wifi, duh. :p

People were playing Quake multiplayer with, like, 56k connections in the past. The speed of some ~1mb 3G connection is plenty enough for most online multiplayer, it's just that 3G still has a habit of being unreliable (the connection can drop/chug much easily than broadband). That's the bigger problem. It doesn't prevent multiplayer or make it completely unplayable, it just makes it a lesser experience on 3G when compared to broadband. And, as said, games that require really good reflexes (fighting games, fast-paced FPSs) are no good on 3G, though that could be said about most fighting games even when using a broadband connection. Playing online just doesn't compare to playing against someone who's in the same room (especially against experienced players & if you want to pull off some advanced techniques/moves).

Im more inclined to play my multiplayer games on a handheld in ad-hoc mode anyway !! If me and a mate were on a long train journey or something being able to fire up COD and play over ad-hoc is awesome !

AT&T partnership press release explains further:
Developed specifically for PlayStation Vita and pre-installed on each system, "near" will allow users to find out what other PS Vita users in their vicinity are currently playing and what titles are most popular in the area. Users can meet with friends and new players virtually – regardless of what games they are playing – simply by sharing their game information across PlayStation®Network... "Near" also enables location-based gaming features such as "gifting," in which a user can access virtual game-related items that other users are sharing, through checking in at geographic locations that others have also visited. The virtual items can include content unlocked from games, such as character costumes, weapons and treasures. Sharing these items between users adds a unique dimension to the portable gaming experience on PlayStation Vita while enhancing the social connectivity among the PS Vita community.
