Everytime I watch these crappy quality videos, I think to myself, why do some people think this isn't a technical marvel of this generation?

FOOK ME!

The last third of the 5th video actually gave me goosebumps, the sound of that JGTC, the graphics and the London Elektricity tune playing is a marriage made in heaven!

ALL HAIL Polyphony Digital,

ND, Santa monica and PD all PS3 baby!

Dude, this game is going to be amazing. I've never even been a huge GT fan, not that I disliked the series either it's just that I'm more of an "arcade" racer type of person rather than a simulator type of person, but I can't help but be excited for this. I'm very impressed.

I just saw this replay of the standard Nissan 300ZX over at GTPlanet:

As I suspected, in-game during races it looks more than acceptable.

Imo that looks poor compared to Premium car footage, night and day difference springs to mind.

It really doesnt look like a step up from GT4, it is much closer to the PS2/PSP than the built from scratch PS3 cars...

As an small in-game model that I'll be watching in replays or overtaking at speed, it looks absolutely fine to me. The look of standards is not an issue for me at all - it's the fact that they lack so much in features relative to the premiums, and that is something that affects the entire structure of the game. I got over just focusing on graphics in games long ago.

What do you expect the standard to look like? They are based off the models used to create the cars in GT4...just touched up slightly, so as such I wouldn't expect them to be anywhere close to how the premiums look.

I was kinda hoping for inbetween. I had said numerous times on here that the cars were imported directly from the PS2 game only to be shot down in flames that this was not the case and they would look significantly better, maybe they told me that much i started to believe them :bang:

Well, I didn't really know what to believe until I'd seen them for myself. The thing is, you are looking at small poor quality videos there, where the car itself takes up a tiny portion of the area. They are going to look similar in such a case, but if you were to take full resolution screenshots of the two cars side-by-side I'm sure you would be able to see a significant difference. PD didn't just lift them out of GT4 as they were - they used the raw data as a starting point, which itself is far more detailed than the cars you actually drove in-game, and touched them up.

And even though they may not look as detailed as a premium, they are bound by the same physics and such so the driving experience will be every bit as good right? That's the most important thing anyways, I'm hardly ever going to be looking at my car when I'm driving. And personally, I didn't think they looked bad at all, I surely don't see psp/ps2 models, but that's just my opinion.

To the best of my knowledge they use exactly the same underlying physics model, just without the graphical fidelity and damage modeling (as in, panels falling off - they do suffer scratches etc.)

Actually, I encourage everyone to go take a look at the website to check out all of the features.

There is a tuning shop where you can get new parts for your engine, chassis, wheels, etc. for premium models, if you can't do that for standard models (which I doubt you can) it makes more sense that they included "doubles" of some of the cars so you could have more variety as far as driving experience, etc. Plus it's kind of cool that they have doubles as that way you can race different years of the same model to see which one is better and compare them against each other.

So having the standard variations isn't all bad because it, theoretically, adds more variety to the GAMEPLAY (since the way the cars drive is of the same quality whether it's standard or premium) this way you have 1000 different types of driving experiences at your disposal, at the cost of some graphical fidelity, instead of sacrificing two thirds of the variety for equally amazing graphical fidelity across the board. It really comes down to whether or not the graphics or the gameplay is more important to you.

If the different variations of the same model of car really are different from each other in terms of how they drive (which I would imagine they are) then I'm glad they went with 800 standard models instead of 150 more premiums because that makes for a more robust driving experience. And the graphics for the standard cars aren't BAD in the slightest, at least IMO. So to me sacrificing that much gameplay variety just so all of them are of the same graphical quality isn't worth it. Again, that is just my opinion.
See I'm okay with that lol, as long as the driving experience itself is of the same quality, then it's not really an issue to me, since I'm going to spend most of my time DRIVING rather than gawking. And the standard models do scratch and such, just no panel deformation.
My sentiments exactly, I'll be behind the wheel of most of these cars in bumber cam, so I'll only ever see the car in replay. Others on track are hardly going to get admired as I try to overtake them! Yeah, my bad on the damage statement, I know that standards suffer minor scratches and dents, but it came out a bit wrong!

Lol yeah I figured you knew, I just posted the link for others, I actually find out stuff I didn't even know about looking at that website, like how they get the amazing smoke effects and such.

Ageed, those smoke effects are pretty amazing - will be great to try out a few donuts on the Top Gear Test Track ;)

Yeah that's going to be awesome :). I'm really anticipating this title, which is odd because it really hasn't been on my radar too much, I wasn't really SUPER excited by it but since they announced the solid release date I've been watching more videos and such and I just can't help but really want this game. It just looks a lot more intense and fun then simulators usually do. I mean, if you asked me to describe a racing simulator in a word I probably would have said sterile, they've always just seemed like a lot less fun and exhilarating to me than a game like Burnout for example, but GT5 really has that sense of speed, the realistic physics that make the driving feel much more visceral (at least it seems that way from what I can tell from the videos), and the amazing weather affects and graphics that make it all that much more immersive.

I'm sure I sound like some fanboy but it's hard for me not to be excited, even with some of the gripes (which I can understand); like the standard, premium split, which means not all cars have the same level of visual damage, not all cars have cockpit view, etc. It's just that there's just so much more to this title that it's hard for me to really care about the relatively small differences. But maybe the reason why I am looking forward to GT5 so much is because I HAVEN'T been waiting on pins and needles for 6 years.

I've always been looking forward to this game, and it is the sole reason why I chose PS3 over Xbox 360. Since the March 2010 release date was announced for Japan I paid much more attention, and when that was missed I've monitoring the forums almost constantly! When the leaked information started coming out and people where moaning and whining it kinda' took the wind out of it a bit, but I stopped paying attention to the cry babies and looked at things objectively for myself.

Sure, the thrill of the chase is over, and for a lot of people that will hurt because the reality of the game will not live up to it. All I say is, bring it on!
