I think PSU should use its presence to get in with some of the gaming houses and publishers. Exclusive reports, screenshots and videos would be nice but probably a bit much to ask for (but if you did get them then they could be restricted to Subscribers only). Maybe they could even wrangle some beta keys which they could give away to subscribers - that's the kind of stuff I'd pay for. Custom Titles and no-ads are not worth my money. Supporting the site - yes - but I would prefer to do that through a donation button where I get to set the value I deem appropriate. Any donation is better than no donation which is what they are getting now.
Great ideas, and definitely stuff we're working towards.
my problem with it, is that i pay so i dont get ads etc and even though there is no add i still get the **** off white bar to the side, and it messes with the centering of the forum. its just anoying.
We'll address this.
Put it this way, when things ARE fixed, I'll resub. Until then, if it runs out, it runs out. While there is a hint of things to come, it's a long way off from being a fixed forum. There are so many things wrong, not only with the actual forum, but the members too. That needs to be fixed as much as the broken forums.
Agreed.

I have been away for quite sometime. I was one of the original subscribers but as the current forum status stands, I will not subscribe again for these reasons. There is just something different now about the userbase/forum feel. Can't quite put my finger on what feels different.... It almost seems like the standards have been lowered on regular users.
Pretty much. Seems like there's a lack of leadership and "care" from the powers that be. There is definitely no over-night fix for this.

I couldn't agree more that there's no quick fix for this situation. However, that isn't the type of situation that even should be addressed with anything quick.

What I will tell you is that any lack of caring and leadership is gone - that one we're here to change and I swear from the bottom of my heart that it won't be the case anymore.

I know that we won't turn things around in a night... but over time and working together we can do it.

You see, we value the community's opinion extremely, and want you to give us any feedback negative or positive so we can help grow this back into a place that you're honored to be a part of.

In no way would I try to force people to come back, or force them to subscribe... however, we do need your opinions as to exactly WHAT is wrong. With that information we can do everything we can to help push it in a direction you like!

So when it was said "It almost seems like the standards have been lowered on regular users." could you expand on that a little?

Also @The_One - what kind of more care and leadership are you looking for? I hope that I'm helping in that regard, but again if there's more you want to see I want to hear it!

Well, there are definitely different standards for different users, mainly long time users get away with much too much. That is one thing I thing needs to be changed going forward.

I'll tell you how to get the punters in:

Get a hot girl to do vid reviews of stuff.

I know it's a bit sad but gamers are generally a horny bunch and therefore tits = hits.

Anyways.. Joking aside.. look at ClassicGameRoom reviews to see how to do great video reviews no hot girls needed and it is a BIG HIT with youtube viewers. (I watch reviews there instead of garbage IGN/Gamespot)

Point is Video Review > Written Review.
(ala ClassicGameRoom style)

You should still have a written review but a great video review on youtube with a lot of hits gets people to the forums and site.. which increases advertising! (as long as you don't advertise the site in the video itself but just in the description.. viewers hate nothing more than ads in the video unless it's at the end)

I remember back a year or two ago, there was no tolerance for a post that did not provide some sort of insight into a conversation.
Posts had to be a certain length before they were accepted to the boards, and things like typing "extra characters" to meet the minimum was met with an infraction.
New users had to have, I believe, 50 worthwhile posts before they were permitted to create threads. There was a time frame on this also, but I cannot recall.

I'm sure I could think of more but it's time for me to go home.

the 50 post limit, was initially like 15 then was raised to 50. its not set at 25 (i believe- ask coma) the minimum characters thing was good, but was a real hindrance on some forum games, and also the sub thread.
fix'd ;)
I agree it can be a bother with some forum games, but I am sure the coding for the forums is robust enough to allow it only in the general section.

Posts that only contain one or two words normally adds absolutley nothing to the discussion.

You have it backwards though. It's supposed to be, admins(owner) show interest in improving the site and performance = members clicking ads.

How do they know if you have clicked an ad? They can't know that, that's a terrible thing to ask your visitors.

Yeah thats actually a really bad idea... it can get you kicked off many ad networks. We in no way want to ask people to click ads - we simply want to point out that it helps a website if you see an ad that interests you by clicking on it. Thats the key!

You're right though that there might have been many sites back in the day that asked for that.. but it caused a lot of problems. :)

I agree to a certain extent. However, the reality of what we've been going through over a pretty long stretch of road, dictates caution. We've constantly lost things that we've had, while subscribing no less, and have been handed promises after promises. So in this instance, words aren't going to be a very persuasive, for me at least. While I'm pleased to see things moving forward, albeit at an extremely slow pace, it's forward nonetheless. Layout, performance, and features, and a few things I will PM you about, will be the factors that keep me subscribing. I don't click ads. I've never crossed one that was remotely interesting to me. In that light, however, I do subscribe to several sites to help support them.

Totally understandable on all fronts. I hope that we can use actions as well as words to show how much we do care about this site! We won't always move quickly, but we'll always move forwards.

The subscription is very much appreciated! That is a fantastic way to support a site, and we hope to be able to offer what you want to keep it up. We'll definitely up the ante on what subscribers get as we go.
