Equipped with Blu-ray and Pre-Installed HDDAvailable at €499 (AU$829 20GB HDD) and €599 (AU$999 60GB HDD)

Los Angeles, May 8, 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today that it would launch PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) in “Clear Black” throughout mainland Europe and Australasia on November 17, 2006, as part of a worldwide simultaneous launch.

PS3 is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realized through the combination of Cell and RSX™ processors, in addition to the playability of a vast catalog of PlayStation® and PlayStation®2 software titles.

Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network.

Equipped with basic input/output ports, PS3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering the joy of the most advanced computer entertainment contents to homes around the world. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PS3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

The new controller for PS3 has been created by refining and improving the world’s most popular PlayStation controller which has shipped more than several hundred million units worldwide. The controller for PS3 employs a high-precision, highly sensitive six-axis sensing system that is capable of processing all parameters within the controller itself, thereby eliminating the need for any additional settings on the display system. By applying this technology, it will become possible to freely control the PS3 system over the network.

While further enhancing the joy of entertainment on PlayStation 2 and PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable), SCEE will vigorously promote PS3 as the next generation computer entertainment platform.

I'm more intersted to see if they can pull off a console at 1K or above in our two markets. It's gonna be a long slog for Sony in regards to us ANZACS :?

Now thats cleared up - kudos for the 'trophy-grab' - good work  too bad you guys lost

Back on topic - do you think consumers will go 360/Wii moreso than PS3 in our markets? Just such a wide gap at retail - will be very bizarre to walk into EB/JB etc to see 1K price tags on PS3's that aren't even bundles....

Import one, when I visited Australia your dollar was only 6 cents less than the Canadian one, it'd save you about $400aud. Since games will be region free you'd be fine there. You might get stuck having to import movies, but considering the insanity of Australian prices it might be worth it, I remember paper backs costing like $15aud when they cost $7.99cdn at home.

Don't worry - the Sony hardcore and hardcore gamers in general will be doing just this. Good step down converters(for voltage transfer) aren't too cheap though. Importing has been a very good way to buy games in this country though. Usually about $30-$40 cheaper from online vendors than at retail

Before you commit your self too much to this, make sure that both regions use the same type of electricity. Everything that I took from Europe to USA didn't work. It kind of annoyed me.

Yeah we know that more than any market but thats not the point. I'm not trying to be a hairy-arse but don't be wishy-washy on this Steroyd. It's a fairly big issue for us in Aus/NZ

If it was something like -

60GB = $849.00 and
20GB = $749.00 then it would be just ok. Just. But 1K man, thats pushing it I'm afraid

Bro , start thinking Playstation 3 bundles here in New Zealand and in Australia .

Go ahead , try it cause it gives me one helluva headache .

Don't even try to think about a PS3 "Ultimate" bundle . The "Ultimate" XBox 360 Bundle (12 games + 4 wireless controllers + 2 faceplates + Gold LIVE blah blah blah) here in New Zealand already pushes $2000 .

Euro is more or less the same as a dollar. I however might expect the UK system to be more expensive.
Well since you drive on the wrong side of the road I guess 20% isnt a big difference between EUR and USD. Not that anyone from UK is aware that you can buy stuff from EU tax free.

Well if they went by exchange rates from the USD it would £322 for the 60gb... but some how I think it will be higher than that *nervous laugh*

I'm think straight conversions of £499 and £599 are a real possability.... especially after last nights Sony conference.

PS: Sorry for hyjacking your thread Aussies 8)

If the UK price is for the 60gb over £350 I will walk out the very next day and pick up a 360 with Oblivion. I will then get the PS3 at a later date when the price drops.

Best guess is £410 for higher end, and £340 for the lower end.
