Can ps1 games be played on ps3?

All models can play the original Playstation games. Only the 60, 20, and 80 GB versions play PS2 games.

man i didnt know that ha ha i had ps3 for a year! i thought if it cant play ps2 then ps1 wont work! what about guncon will it works for point blank ?

All this time I didn't play my favourite PS1 games because I couldn't be bothered to set up my PS2 and now I see I could have been playing them all this time on my PS3?

I got 40GB it works all ps1 games works on all ps3 as someone said here... I just tested guncon3 for point blank it wont work .. shame

I thought all PS3 consoles can play all PS1 game discs. Maybe any PS1 games that require a special controller (light gun type, etc.) won't work on a PS3?

yeah u can play ps1 games on the ps3.

All PS3's play PS1 games, but the thing is, some dont work properly or work at all due to the PS3's backwards compatibility, but most do.

Hopefully Sony will perfect this one day though through firmware updates, they done some minor improvements in the past so they are bothering

I read somewhere that the difference between the Asia model and European model was backward game compatibility and some of the early European models had no ability to play older games.

This was prelaunch press stuff so I could well be wrong here.

The Guncon only works on SDTV and if it's a guncon one I don't know if that works via a usb convertor. I have a guncon 2 and this works on the composite out put to a normal tv
