It bores me greatly. I know the lords of PSU towers have declined before, so what if I tack on a please? :)

If not can you at least replace them with humorous alternatives such as fudging and cack

I shall brace myself for a no, but it's worth a shot so it is

The Vbullet censor doesn't work that way. It can only replace characters with a string of text. So if * is selected the characters of a cuss all turn into *.

If say... "silly" was typed in then a popular four letter word would become sillysillysillysilly

Individual words cannot receive a separate filter. There's an input list and they all receive the same filter.

I feel as though some of the censored words are a little unnecessary though.

actually we have a mod that allows you to replace certain words for instance if you tried to write M$ with a $ sign it automatically changes it.

IMO the better thing to do like a lot of the popular social sites (ie. Digg.com) is to by default star out curse words but have an option in people's profiles to unhide curse words.

If wow can get away with it, I don't see why PSU could.

Though it would require a bit of custom coding.

So Admin/Mod team, how do you guys personally feel about the suggestion for an "opt-in" system where users can opt-in to see starred out/curse words? (So that only the people who want to see the words see them..Digg.com is a good example that this system works)

I like the idea of an opt out/in system.
Having the system in place as a default would be the best way to go, in my opinion, so younger users wouldn't have to be subject to such language from the very beginning.

According to Vbulletins developers, there is no official swear filter selective filtering for the individual forums. There are however, 3rd party mods that can be coded into the forums to do so. The reason is that the chat swear filter is not localized and scans the message you post before it is saved. So it does it globally, not just in specific forums... which is why you see PMs, VM's, etc... all censored.

Given the depth to which that coding would have to be done, I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing it here any time soon. Plus, I don't know how hot Seb would be putting someone's homebrewed code into part of his livelyhood.

Are you really that desperate to use coarse language on a family forum? I mean, it is a bit stupid having words like 'piss' censored but, c'mon, this is Thread #1010929 asking for the filter to be removed; it's beyond a joke. If you're that desperate to swear, go to NeoGAF or something. Or, better yet, grow up.

yeah, and it was set at default to hide, so no one would be "offended" unless they chose to be...

1. This isn't a family forum, lol. It's a PlayStation forum targeted at gamers. Don't act like the site is inviting Mom, Dad and Grandma to sign up for wholesome discussion. FFS, some of the threads in the Off-Topic section are more inappropriate than you or I cursing.

2. Adults don't swear? Lulz. I hope you're joking.

The swear filter is pointless and should be gone, but this topic has been beaten to death so many times, it's not even worth trying anymore.
