I was searching for a thread like this but didn't find one so I created one. It's not a phobia or anything like that but I'm afraid of mosquitos because they are creepy looking and suck blood and some carry infections. How about you?
Stingy bugs. I'm not allergic or anything, but when I was maybe 4, I got stung by a hornet and it hurt like hell for days (finger totally swelled up and everything; not like "bee allergy", just a big big hornet and a very small kid), and I've been phobic about them ever since.
A fear and phobia are two completely different things.
I have a phobia of spiders, more commonly known as arachnaphobia. Seriously, I hate the little ****ers. Put me in a room with them, and I'll probably end up killing myself, I hate them that much. I don't even know where this phobia stemmed from, but it's been since I was a child. I still act like a child whenever I see a spider, I have to get someone else to get rid of 'em for me, haha.
I have a fear of open water. I have no idea where this one came from, but whenever I watch a film like Castaway, I always end up with a shiver down my spine when he's just floating there. Just the thought of it gets me feeling all dizzy inside.
As a kid growing up I remember strolling through my neighborhood and always having to run away from aggressive looking dogs. Now I can shake a stick at them without flinching, but aggressive dogs still put me on edge.
I suffer from Achrophobia. Been diagnosed and all. It's an EXTREME fear of heights. I just freeze in place and can't get down safely or even move for that matter. I'm getting better, but anything over 20ft or so still freaks me out.
I have no problem flying for the most part, though. Weird.......
