WILD gorillas have been snapped apparently drunk and disorderly after overindulging on alcoholic sap from fresh bamboo shoots.
British wildlife photographer Andy Rouse took the photos of the mountain gorillas, the same endangered species that featured in the Hollywood hit film Gorillas In The Mist, in the central African nation of Rwanda, UK tabloid The Daily Mail reports.
'It was not exactly Gorillas In The Mist, more like gorillas who were p*ssed," Rouse told The Daily Mail.
"I had heard they sometimes get like this, but I had never actually seen it. It was just like any family party when one or two members have a little bit too much to drink.”
The pictures show a gorilla imbibing bamboo sap and then looking alternatively bellicose, befuddled and ruefully hung over the next day with head being held in giant hand.

"The boss of the group, a huge silverback called Kwitonda, and some of the younger males were completely out of it," Rouse told the Daily Mail.
"Some were running round cackling to each other, others were going mad swinging through the trees, some were just lying on the ground in an inebriated state.
"Normally, they eat handfuls of other vegetation, like a sort of salad to soak up the sap, but this time they were just enjoying a drink.

"When I went back the next day, it was all very quiet, as if they were nursing gorilla-sized hangovers."
Gotta get me some bamboo sap, if its strong enough to get 220kg Gorilla's hammered just think what it could do to me.:p. It has too suck for them though, no greasey food to cure the hangover.

Thanks Kyo. Should see if I can get some imported!!!! Cos if there's one thing we have a shortage of in Aus its booze!:p

On a serious note I'm guessing the sap would be really sweet and you could mix it into all kinds of cocktails.

Yeah it stated in the article that they were looking a little worse for wear. Probably wouldn't do as much to us, humans (mainly those of European ancestory) have built a tolerance for acohol. Still willing to give it a red hot go though.:p
