How much life left in the PS3?

I'm underwhelmed with my Xbone and am giving serious thought to selling it and buying a PS3. I've yet to play GoW Ascension, The Last of Us, and GTA V. Not to mention I really wanna play through all of the Uncharted games again and all of the God of War games, especially 3. I've found a local shop that has a new 320gb PS3 slim so I wont have to settle for the super slim version. I'm kind hesitant to pull the trigger because I don't know how much life the PS3 has left in it, but I almost don't care because there's a backlog of great games I've yet to experience.

The PS3 effectively has 'no life in it'. Dark Souls 2, which came out 5 days ago, was the last big game for the system. It has a great backlog of games available, but after investing in a 500$ new-gen console it doesn't make much sense to turn back on that, not unless you can get most/all of your money back.

Buy a used one on craigslist. I just got my 3 working again, and it was an amazing decision as I missed out on so many AAA games. Now my PS4 is awaiting Watch Dogs to return to use.

Dark Souls II is not the last big game for the PS3. Persona 5 is set to release next year. It should be awesome.

PS3 still has some decent things coming up. Such as the following, and I'm sure there are others I forgot.

Mar 18, 2014 - Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster
May 21, 2014 - Drakengard 3 (Digital)
TBA 2014 - Rainbow Skies (Digital)
TBA 2014 - Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMIX
TBA 2014 - Tales of Xillia 2
TBA 2015 - Persona 5

Hopefully they localize Tales of Zestiria when it's released

Then I say go for it, if moving back a generation in graphics won't bother you. PS3 is a great console with a plethora of good games. You're a gamer, so go where the games are.

If you missed out on all of those games then I say definitely go for it. There are a ton of other great games to play as well and can't forget about the PS Plus games too. This month for PS3 we got Metro: Last Light, PayDay 2 and Tomb Raider. Between my PS3 and PS4 I feel like I have too many games to play lol.

Yeah I think I'm gonna keep the xbone. Still looking for a good used PS3 on craigslist. How people scratch their game systems and forget to dust them I will never know.

Hey, that way you know the PS3s received a lot of love, eh?

Mine's like that too, but I read there's a guy on the forums that polished the faceplates and got back the mirror shine.

Well since the last game to be released on the ps2 was only last year or so I'm sure the ps3 still has plenty of life left in it

Well I nabbed a new 320gb PS3 Slim from Hastings 2 days ago. I was really wanting the slim and not the craptacular super slim so it's a good thing Hastings hangs onto old stock. Picked up GTA V, nabbed UC2 GTA V, God of War Saga, God of War Ascension, and when I'm done with those then it's onto TLOU. Also downloaded Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and am gonna try and get UC3 off PSN but it's a 40gb download and I have 6mb DSL so I may just buy it from Amazon on the cheap as well. I haven't touched my PS4 since I got my PS3 lol. So many good games I never finished or played on this system.

As long as BD 3d and BD movies keep coming out, my ps3 is going nowhere. As a game console, i still expect sony to support it for few more years.

and the amazing file support like DivX, H.264 etc etc.

I'd say 5 more years left in the PS3 before it's ripped off the store shelves or heavily downsized in retail space.. PS3 is still selling strong everywhere…my PS4 still sits there alongside Wii U waiting for good games, Infamous Second Son looks great might have to pick that up soon… but PS3 is where it's at especially with all the PS PLUS freebies… makes the PS4 inferior in the free content section at the moment

I'm having so much fun with my PS3. It's nearly on 24 hours a day since I've bought it. So much gaming goodness and games are CHEAP now for it. PS+ is literally the best thing going in gaming right now too. All those awesome sales and free games...glad I got the 320gb model. Other than BF4 that will steal my time tomorrow when Naval Strike comes out, my PS3 is gonna be my workhorse until the PS4 library expands.

Exactly! I use my PS3 for MP4's, and 3D movies all the time. Once the PS4 supports this, my PS3 will probably be officially retired.

Right now my ps3 has longevity due to my game library backlog. But thats it unless more games release that I want.

Mr PS3 is still the go to device for media playback and sharing. With the DLNA functions its got it would be stupid to retire it until the PS4 can do all it can.

I was going to say about not forgetting the PS+ games on the ps3, some proper good games coming out on there lately.
