Lemme first be clear, I don't hate FB and I don't think FB or any other social network site is a BAD idea. There pretty much a very natural thing to happen in this internet age we live in. But dangit, I guess it's not the IDEA I hate so much as it is perhaps the PEOPLE on these sites and how they use it. Or hell maybe it's both...

For me personally I just use it (under an alias) to contact certain people about current important issues. But I can't help but think that FB just helps people be soooo damn narcissistic in how many "friends" they have. Or in how they post pictures or what's going through their head just to have people go "oh wow you look so pretty" etc. Or if there is a girl you like and you try and find em on there, it's somewhat sucks to find out "oh crap, she has a billion friends on here anyway half/most of which probably like her too".

Theres a chat function on there, but it's like people don't even know how to use it, or care to. I can't stand it when you try and tell someone something and they ignore you. This drives me up a wall. It's so easy to ignore people on social sites as oppose to real life. Then you can really see a person's true colors if they put you on the "ignore list".

You know what, I really don't even know if what I'm saying is making any sense. Maybe I just needed to rant. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel the site is just a pool of narcissism that's ultimately fake as hell!
Fess up, who blocked you that you liked? ;)
Recently? Well I actually didn't like the girl, but I was trying to tell her some important stuff that was really bothering me, she at first responded but then stopped. I can see where she was "seen" my posts but never replied even when I asked her important questions. It pissed me off so I then told her "hey that's rude" and then she just black listed me -.- Honest to god for no good reason lol. Again I didn't like the girl lol.

You may be right. Not claiming to have put forward my argument great, but I do really feel FB is really fake lol.
I also dislike the people. I removed over half of my friends the other day. I pretty much just use it for people close to me now
Pretty much this,People you know very well and see in regular basis won't ignore you or brag ( unless it's how they deal with you in real life )
People who add you that you don't know very well in real life, you can just ignor them both in chat and timeline.

I should do that. Honestly I have some of the biggest douchebags I know on my friends list. I purposely make it a point to avoid anything dealing with them...

Also same thing that happened to the op happened to me, except I didn't get blocked. I was partnering up with a girl in one of my classes to help each other out (you know share notes, advice, etc.) She eventually stopped replying so I just stopped too. I figured she decided I wasn't benefiting her anymore, real charming. (BTW this was in college, I only actually talked to her once or twice in person, we got big classes).

I took three hours of my time the other day to slice my friends list from about 230 to 100. My rules were: they make the cut if they're a genuine, honest-to-goodness friend, a family member, or someone I look up to/admire.

It's working out very well so far. It's been great to totally refocus my social network, and now I know the things I read from others will only be shit I care about.

Another thing that really bugs me about FB is that it's basically an extension of real life in that, black people will mostly just have blacks friends, and whites will mostly have white friends. Not saying this in particular is a big controversy but for me personally it's something that has always bugged me irl as well as on FB.

Facebook alone is a fantastic service.

The problem for me lies in internet friends, they all seem to have isuess, insecurities and demons in their life and hearing someones problems only ever becomes a charcoal mark on your heart.

Just keep it simple by removing anyone who doesn't wish you a happy birthday between said date and the next 10 days.

The majority of my friends list consists of old friends and aquaintances..I only really communicate with people in my main friend circle atm that I see almost on a daily basis.

A lot of the old friends are still really on the list because I can't be bothered deleting them.

I have it set up so if I get a post on my wall or a pm I get an email. I check my email everyday anyway. I don't care what everyone's status is and what they're doing everyday.

What is it with this dismissive attitude towards social media platforms amongst gamers?

You sure are in the minority given the fact that there are more people on Facebook than there were on the planet 200 years ago... It's sad, really, because this just emphasizes the prejudicial stereotypes of non-gamers and why we are still regarded as nerds with no life.

First off, your assuming since ima "gamer" that I have some "dismissive attitude" toward social media. Get over yourself because that has nothing to do with it so get your head out of your ass. I'm am NOT some "nerd" with no life that hates being social!

The person with a dismissive attitude is you, your not paying attention to the principle of how i'm saying people can act. Trying to make a point that FB can be really fake and can cause people to have big egos.

Relax, I was speaking for gamers in general.

Plus, there are no rules for Facebook so it can't be "fake", really. You are just overdramatizing, that's all. While I agree that people competing on how many friends they have is stupid, it's still not something to get so mad about. Everybody can use Facebook the way they want because it really is nothing more than a website with interaction features so you need to calm the fuck down right now.

At the end of the day, it's all about how that Facebook person with the high ego appears in real life. No need to get so worked up about it.

I think facebook is brilliant. I have family all across the world and with facebook it makes it easy to keep in contact with them.

It's also great for general networking. I don't understand people that add thousands just for the sake of having thousands of 'friend' but as a whole, the principle of Facebook is good.

I don't even use it. One thing that does annoy me is that you need a Facebook account to watch trailers, participate in certain events and whatnot.

Yeah, there's a great saying: 'Face it, don't Facebook it', and I agree with this so much. Everyday my New Feed is blocked up with people complaining about how people are slagging them off. Today some guy was compaling about how people were 'slabbering' about his nose etc. I know what you mean though. Lol... Rant over too. :D
