You've probably never heard of Japanese developer Alvion. But the studio may be getting a bit more attention now that they're working on Malicious, an original download-only PlayStation 3 action title with some slick graphics and a potentially intense gameplay system.

Malicious pits you against a creature known as the Malcious. To fend off your foes, you have only your cape. Thankfully, it's a magic cape, capable of pounding enemies through punches, protecting you as a shield, and even firing off projectile "demon bullets."

The focus of Malicious appears to be on big boss fights. From what we've read in the various previews coming out of Japan, each level starts you off in a face off against a boss and its minions. There's no actual stage progression.

Clear the boss, and in what appears to be a Mega Man-like system, you'll earn the boss's skill in the form of a new action for your cape. Also like Mega Man, you're free to select your own stage order.

Malicious is set for PSN release in Japan some time this year. The price has not been disclosed, but Alvion has promised that it will be low.

We haven't heard anything about a US release, but we'll keep your posted.

Do like. The graphics don't look completely top notch, but smooth and attempting to take a distinct art direction.

Great, sounds like a mini Shadow of the Collossus. Doubt PS+ will be seeing it anytime soon so will be a day 1 for me if the price is right.

Wow I didn't realize that his was a PSN game, and not a full retail game. That makes it even more exciting.

It's PSN though, as such, an international release is far easier to manage than for a hardcopy game.

Furthermore, you can always setup a japanese psn account and go that route.

Japan has a LOT of PSN only available there, but I REALLY hope this one comes here. I can understand Japanese if I had to get it off there, but an English version on my local Store would be much easier.
This is incredible looking.
Isn't it though?

I'd argue that even if comparing it to full retail game standards, it still looks well above decent.
Damn! I don't use the word 'pretty' to describe games much but this is damn pretty.

I like. Tbh it looks better than DMC4 to me.
I was thinking the same thing. I didn't like DMC4, I personally thought that game was overhyped and judging from the gameplay, combos, and some abilities that were obviously shown, it does look better then DMC4.
Very interesting.
I hope there is more to do then just grind enemies.
The previews say theres no stage progression and that you're placed into a boss fight (along with its minions), which makes sense for a psn game or is atleast acceptable to me for a low priced game. However, it mentions secret areas so I take it the arena like stages would still have some form of platforming or whatever as long as you have the correct powers unlocked.

Atleast I find the megaman style a good choice.
