I was talking to my buddy VOAR the other day, about playing RPG games line Final Fantasy for example online. I mean, certainly some may have played FFXI the online instalment of Final Fantasy, but would it not be great if online becomes like an integrated part of RPG games around the globe.

With all of us RPG/Final Fantasy fans out here, would it not be nice to instead talking about these games, we could actually play with other people. Like an online multiplayer mode where gamers could team up and experience the world map the game takes place in together - Or even a battle royal, a mode so that people can battle other people.

Especially the way FFXII is played on the world map directly, multiplayer action would be a great option. I remember with Secret of Mana on the NES you had the option to play the game with 2 players simultaneously. I think it would be great to see that implemented in other Final Fantasy games, like FFXII looks like to be great for such an option.

With free online game play on the PS3, plus the huge storage capability blu ray has, everything looks to be possible. besides, Real die hard RPG/FF fans would probably even consider paying for such online. I know some of us would.

Would you like to see online play for RPG games to be taken more seriously? If any ideas, give me your thoughts on this?

I think i understand what you're getting at Tobian lol (im slow ;p). But yeah, if its possible to implement the multiplayer stuff for RPGs without hurting story or gameplay, and its free, that'd rock =). Otherwise, i dont know ;x, because wouldn't be just like another mmo-ish game if that were to happen? Still i guess that would be cool, sharing the adventure/journey of an RPG, like FF12 for example, with someone else would be a nice experience.

Still, dont know how that would affect storyline / gameplay element / other crazy factors i dont know of lol. And also, how big would this online multiplayer option be? Still im guessing it isnt impossible..... or is it??

I honestly never want to play another mmorpg as long as i live (wasted too much time already with previous mmos ><), until something like "The World" (from the .hack universe) is released. And you can also buy those head set display glass virtual reality thingymajigs. Also, the graphics would have to be all CGI like and crazy'd up the butt lol (plus u can even play the game outdoors and not have to be inside all the damn time >_>). OOooommggg that would be so cool ;o....

But getting back on topic lol. FF11 was a pretty good game actually. Plus with the way they incorporated a storyline into an online world was pretty cool. I just loved doing the missions with other people and watching the cool cutscenes afterwards. Although......./sigh i dont even knwo what i want to say anymore lol !!. I guess in the end, i'd like RPGs to stick to offline, unless someone was brilliant enough to make an online RPG that would like kick all major ass.....(THE WORLD) lol

Anyways, thats all i have to say ;O

Tobs I think you're on the right track with this, I think it would be really cool if at a certain point in a RPG (single player) you're having difficulty defeating a boss, you could have the option to call upon your online friends to help you out. So for instance I'm literally getting my arse whooped by Sephiroth Mach 2, I click the online option, search through my friends list and tell Tobian "hey I'm in trouble could you help me defeat this guy!". Then a few moments later you and you're friend are battling your way through your RPG single player game (online enabled).

That's a great example VOAR, I think it would be awesome if it were possible to help each other out like that with boss fights. I really think it's much more fun if there was an active way to share RPG games with others. I remember having the best time playing FFVII and FFX together with my older brother. We played against bosses, solved puzzles, saved special items and levelled up in turns. Especially levelling up was the best as that gets boring sometimes.

With every RPG game I’ve played and still today, I want to get as much experience early in the game and get as high level possible towards the end of the game. In the end I try but always back down and just finish the game, except with FFVII and FFX playing along side my bro. I think it would great if you could challenge players online and level up that way. It might be less boring at times playing against some random monsters over and over again.

CO-OP rpg via online is something i would love to see more of. It would be great i think to be able to play FFXIII in some way co-op with a buddy. The fast pace that the battle system seemed to have would make splitting up the task of fighting much easier.

That is a great idea. Back in the days of the Megadrive, games that featured cooperative play were commonplace.

Online cooperative play would have been amazing for Final Fantasy 7. Imagine, like VOAR said, fighting against a boss and being able to call a friend to help you out. It'd be great if you could actually use the online friend as the controller of your summoned monster - it'll be a short experience for the other player though.

Online RPGS would be good for people who like to play as a single character for a long time. For example, people who favour standing in the background, helping their teammates could opt to play as a healer. This would make playing through the game much better as you've got people who specialise in healing, fighting etc in your team.

The thing is that if you get too online-RPG it just becomes an MMORPG. Unfortunately there aren't any great MMOs out there that aren't dated.

I think what we are looking at is a standard RPG with online enabled elements which aren't integral to the game but can add to the gameplay experience. Something similar to White Knight Story, where (I think) you can download extra missions after you've completed the game. If you could also download minigames or invite another player from across the globe to help you out with a particular quest that would be fantastic too.

I really like the idea being able to play mini games/extra missions online with a friend or anybody else. Not only to help each other out but I think it would be cool competing against someone.

Take Blitzball or one of those card games for example. They are so addictive that sometime I pop in FFX just to play a game of Blitz. Also nice would be to have a battle against the party of an online friend and see if we match up. Imagine racing chocobo’s or exchanging/selling items with that person.

I think there are a lot of enjoyable ideas that could be used in online RPG games.

I'd love to see online options in RPGs, but I don't think it would work in Final Fantasy. It would be pretty much impossible to maintain the story and gameplay of an RPG like Final Fantasy with multiplayer.

Maybe something like online chocobo races would work though.

There are other games that could make use of it. Pokemon, for example, would have been great online (back in the red/blue/gold days). Could have set up a battle with an online opponent the same way you did by connecting with a friend. Throw in rankings, etc. and people would still be playing them. I think they're doing this with the new Pokemon games though.

I'm sure there are other instances, but it just won't translate well because RPGs are usually built around creating deep personal experiences through gameplay and storytelling. They're meant to be played alone, multiplayer would have to be secondary. I think MMORPGs fill the hole.

Needs a Naruto mmorpg, now that would rock xD.
I agree. There's a lot of potential there. Different cities/allegiances. A wide variety of "classes" and different areas of interest. Not to mention an already huge fan base. If someone did this right, it would be great.

Its a good idea if its free online.
Games like FF12 and Rogue Galaxy and even FFTactics have multiple characters on one screen and i would like to play with my friends across the globe.

what i think would be awesome if its people from certain levels can battle each other.

I would just love to whip someones ass on FFXII. The FFXII battle system was the best thing ive seen so far in a rpg game.
