We should be hearing more about it soon. An official livestream presentation of the Dragon Quest games coming out next year is set for January 13th.

Japanese release date for Dragon Quest XI is between May 27, 2016 and May 27, 2017, according to Square Enix. That means if the game were to release in the first half of 2017 in Japan, it would see a Western release in the first half of 2018.

Surprised that I forgot about this thread. Western release was confirmed for 2018 a while ago so I'll have to update accordingly.

I've never really played any dragon quest games. Always wanted to but I just never got around to actually picking one up. But I know it's a well respected jrpg franchise. Maybe I'll give it a chance. But unfortunately when you have kids, job, wife etc, 80 hour rpgs can be a little hard to concentrate on.

Definitely take your time playing the games. I've always thought RPGs were like television shows, anyway, in that you go through the experience one or two episodes at a time.

I was considering of getting this while I was in Japan but there's too many games to play atm. Have to import this if it takes too long to come West.

They said they just started working on the Switch version of the game. Hopefully by spring, as my son has a Switch and I would play it with him.

I won't be getting it right away, more towards the end of the year for the PS4. I'm not expecting a 1:1 graphics/performance quality when ported to Switch but maybe there will be exclusive content as well.
