I've finished Stray (on PS5) now. And here's my thoughts about it.
I really enjoyed my playthrough of this game. Even though I am a cat person, I don't think you have to be to enjoy this, but you will probably enjoy it more if you are. If you enjoy an adventure with exploring and great atmosphere, you might like this. This game has a really nice art style, a lot of attention to details and is very polished overall. If only more indie studios would aim for this kind of quality and polish, then I would play a lot more indie games.
The main things you do in the this game is exploring, solve (simple) puzzles, "platforming" and interact with the robot characters and the environment. There's also some stealth and running from enemies. There's not really any combat to talk about, it's not that type of a game. Some people actually expected that even though there has been nothing suggesting that in any of the trailers or pr material shown.
I liked the exploration part of this game, the story was well executed and the sound design was really good overall. The soundtrack fit really well with the style and atmosphere of the game.
The game felt really smooth (at 60fps) and the image is very sharp and clean (typically runs in 4K with dips down to 1890p, according to Digital Foundry). I had no noticable hitches or such in my playthrough. And there was almost no bugs or glitches at all that I encountered in my playthrough.
The dualsense implementation is really good in this game. Both the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (and the speaker) is done very well in this game. It definitely adds to the immersion.
The game could've been a bit longer, some of the mechanics of the game could've been more in depth and the story could've been a bit more fleshed out, imo. And there's always room for improvement, when it comes to polish and other things. But that's really just nit picky stuff.
Is this game worth $30? For me personally it was worth it, but I can see how some people think it's a bit much for such a short game. An average playthrough seems to be around 4-5 hours, if you try to do everything (like I did) it's going to take a bit longer than that (it took me somewhere between 8-9 hours to finish, even though I didn't go for the platinum). Going for a completionist playthrough and the platinum trophy is probably going to take you 10+ hours. One of the trophies is that you have to speed run the game in under 2 hours, so at least two playthroughs is needed to get the platinum.
For me personally this game lands somewhere around an 8 out of 10.
