PlayStation 3 sales have reached 30 million units across Europe and the PAL territories as of December 17, Sony has announced.

“This is a major milestone for us and clearly shows just how popular the PlayStation brand and products are within Europe and the PAL territories”, said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “We are really pleased with the success of the PS3 system over the last six years, and are committed to continuing our support of the platform with high quality products and titles that are of the caliber that PlayStation fans have come to expect.”

PlayStation 3 launched in Europe in March 2007. The latest PlayStation 3 redesign, the ‘PS3 Super Slim’, was launched in October this year.

That's just less than half of PS3 sales isn't it? Not surprised as PAL nations (which is an antiquated zoning system if I'm not mistaken) have traditionally been Sony-sympathetic.

Yeah, 30 million out of 70.2 million worldwide sales. I haven't checked but I'm sure the numbers are higher in Japan than they are for North America.

PAL territories is a big area, not just Europe. Great sales. Nice to see market penetration.
That's pretty good, especially since it had a late launch there.
Oh yeah, good point. The sales are actually very impressive actually, considering how late it came out here

I really want the newer slimmer model of the PS3. At this point in this generation though it might not really be worth it lol

It's currently £120 at the likes of Amazon, Tesco etc :p. that's for the 12gb one of course so if you got an old hdd knockin about that's fantastic value

I dunno. I'm about to get me a PS3 but I don't see any reason to get a Super Slim over a Slim (I don't care about storage since I don't see myself storing a bunch of stuff or downloading a bunch of content). I read the Super Slim is noisier and that the Slim doesn't even use any more power than the Super Slim does.

The only time I hear it is when I first boot up a game.

Congrats to Sony for turning around the fortunes of the PS3. I have fond memories of my first and second PS3 consoles. Awesome machines. Here's to hoping the PS4 gets off to a great start. Sony for life :)
you guys wonder why Europe gets the good stuff first on PS+...
And Sony wonders why Americans go buy a 360 instead when they used to be their biggest market for the PS2. You would think with PS3 not doing as well in that territory that Sony would take steps to lure those consumers to their console not give them a reason to go elsewhere. The US PS+ is a joke. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009...in-north-america-breaks-console-sales-record/
