WWE 13 is the newest WWE game released by THQ. Second WWE Series title (WWE 12 being the first) fifteenth in the overall series. As a fan of WWE I obviously had initial interest in this game. Last year's WWE 12 debuted a new engine predator 2.0 engine this years WWE 13 is running the same engine that is tweak to provide smoother animation and avoid odd collisions seen in the past THQ wwe games. This year's WWE title has gotten rid of the "Road to Wrestlemania" in favor of the "Attitude Era (97-03)." The Universe mode is pretty much the same from last year.
Attitude Era Mode. Now if your familiar with the attitude era that was the time of DX, Stone Cold, and the Rock. The beginning of the attitude era mode begins in 97 with the Undertaker vs Bret Hart for the title at summerslam 1997 with shawn michaels as special guest referee which is coined as the begging stages of the Attitude era with it coming full circle with the Montreal screwjob. You'll play thru the monday night wars the rise of Stone Cold, the Rock, and more. Anyone that remember those times will enjoy reliving all those matches and events. Even younger WWE fans will enjoy playing thru this mode also ACTUAL WWE promo's are used between matches as well as audio some of it sounds off because of the volume but its stays accurate to how these events transpired.
Universe Mode: Its a Seasonal mode for WWE 13. You can do almost anything you want in this mode assign titles, create PPV events, create feuds, ect ect this is the best mode for DIEHARD WWE fans. I personally haven't dabbled too much into this part of the game Ive been too entertained by the Attitude Era Mode and mostly play online.
Multiplayer: This is where the game gets insanely fun. You can play any kind of match you like. TLC, hell in a cell, Elimination Chamber, Ladder match, mix tag ect ect. Ive played this with 4 players was additively fun ever my cousins how never watch WWE were having a blast hitting each with chairs backstabbing your partner.
Online: WWE 13 online is pretty basic nothing fancy about it. You can send an invite to anyone of your friends playing (BTW add me on PSN DeviousOnePSU lol) of set up a room and play random people online. Typically I play online with my little brother we mostly play triple threat matches since you have to only wait for 1 player to join that's always fun. I use an Ethernet connection i haven't notice any lag but some players will do a combination of run grapple and taunt after to get a finisher move i haven't come across it much but its something to look out for. You can also play rank matches with a random person. Also you can create story lines and upload them for other players to try online. (Ill be doing this tomorrow lol)
Creative: Like all THQ WWE titles you can create your own wrestler also in this game you can create your own arena which is pretty cool.
Gameplay & Controls: Wont go into to much in regards to what button does what. If you have ever played a THQ WWE game especially last years game the controls will be familiar to you like it was to me. R2 is your ONLY reversal button. For newcomers you can pick it up quick hell even my gf pick up the controls and was decent for NEVER playing a WWE title. Game play is the smoothest of any THQ WWE game controls are easy to pick up and play so you dont need to be an expert to play this game and have fun.
Graphics & Presentation: Obviously playing on PS3 graphics are going to be top notch LMAO...but they look great you can identify the wrestlers and their features. Animations are smooth, fluent, and entrances are accurate. My only complaint is the camera during the match if you in a falls count anywhere match and your on the ramp and one person is in the ring the whole view changes. Its disturbing and takes away from the match while your in it.
Sound: Sound is amazing love hearing the theme music of random wrestlers in the main menu. Commentary is the best of the series if you've played the past games you know how bad it could be. During the attitude era you get guest commentary from Stone Cold, the Rock, and others its pretty entertaining to say the least. Great music and audio in this game!
Conclusion: If your a WWE fan you will no doubt enjoy this game. If your not this is still a solid game anyone can pick up and play and game is deep enough where you can master it. It offers alot of modes you could easily spend 4 to 5 hours on the game and not notice it. So if you have a couple a friends and some beer this is a great time waiting to happen with this game.
