Playstation 4 sometimes refuses to turn off.

Did this happen to anyone else? It happened twice to me now. I waited an hour the second time it occurred but the only way to shut down the console was to unplug it completely. The next time I turned it on the system needed to be restored. This is quite worrying, so far I kept all my data but next time that might not be the case.

Yet to have that issue myself, though I do find it does take awhile to actually shut off. Are you hitting the button, or going through the menu to shut it off?
That sucks. It seems like Sony has the hardware issues this gen with the PS4.
This is the first time I have heard of anyone having this issue. And this could easily be a software issue with his PS4.

The software needs some bugs fixed, nobody is denying that. But the PS4 is under the 1% defect rate, so it is safe to say the PS4 does not have the hardware issues this gen.

Oh alright, that's good. I was genuinely just wondering as i've seen a lot of complaints about the PS4 hardware so far. It could just be my experience but i don't know. I think Amazon might have had a lot of fake reviews on bricked consoles but i guess a lot of people really did get a DOA console.

Yeah, there are a lot of complaints about any console at launch but they are not typically representative of the majority. As Lethal said, the defect rate for the PS4 is very low. But just like other consoles, there are those that have issues. Nothing so far as risen to anything close to RROD or YLOD levels, thankfully.

Yup, last gen was a disaster early on. I'm glad we're well past that.
wait what?

anywho, what was it doing OP when you tried to turn it off?
The first the time the beam of light on top of the PS4 just kept flashing for a couple of hours before I plugged it out, with nothing to see on screen. The second time it kept hanging on the please wait screen.

Before that I was watching Netflix the first time, the second time was yesterday after playing Tomb Raider for an hour.

Don't have any weird issues with the PS4 besides that. I'm going to call Sony tomorrow to see if they are aware of something like this and if it might be a problem or not. I'll post here what they say about it.
The PS4 will shut down if you hold the power button the PS4 for 10-15s.
Not when it freezes like this.....I think it is something to do with a the Netflix app. It is a rare glitch so I dont find it scary...Even if I lose data I can always reupload it.

Just hold the power button down until it does turn off.

Yes it does turn off. My PS4 was freezing up when I launched Netflix. I held the power button on the PS4 until it shut down. I deleted NetFlix and installed it again to fix my issue. Fixed it so far anyways.

this wasn't when I launched it I was watching it for a bit before....Actually both times I had my headphones plugged in as well...It just got stuck....There are signs before it does it. Like slow response like the wifi is going out. So when I see that I just shut it down and restart.
point being is that it doesn't.....I have held it for a long damn time and it didn't. I had to unplug it.
Maybe you were not pushing directly on the power button? I have done it 3 times total. Each time was when my PS4 locked up when trying to load up Netflix.

It is easy to miss contact with the power button on the PS4.
So your saying I am ether stupid or a liar......
Um, if you're taking it personally, then you pick. I was making a general statement that, well, generally holds true; in relation to the post Lethal made.

I can also confirm holding the power button when the PS4 freezes works. Had that scare with netflix myself. I held that for a good 15-25 seconds before it finally shut off, and boy did I sigh of relief. I freaked out abit

It's safe to say using Netflix on the PS4 is a HUGE no-no right now.
and i tried posting a gif and it won't work lol FAIL
The attachment system is garbage, it will not even load up for me, all I get is a smaller blank window when I click the button.
Best off using an image host or dropbox "public" folder
