[QUOTE="DrJohnFever, post: 0]You guys have quick computers. At one point my laptop (18 months old)was going at 7.31 frames per second....now I've optimized it and its still at 2:31. I'm firing up another computer tonight and will check that out...

Help - what am I doing wrong with my signature?......I have the image tags...[/quote]

7.31 frames per second!?! WHAT!?! Thats like .13 seconds per frame. That rivals the PS3!! What kind of computer do you have?!? Is that 2 hours and 31 mintues per workunit? You must have some kind of supercomputer, yours is running as fast as the PS3.

Yeah, I originally thought that he made a mistake in thinking that it was frames/seconds instead of seconds/frame.

However, he also says that we have quick computers - in that we said that we have about 30 seconds/frame (but 30 frames/second from his perspective). Hence, if he actually meant 7.31 sec/frame, he would easily realize that his is faster. I think that his might actually be at 7.31 frames/second as you would have to calculate it (the program does not give decimals for the seconds).

Then again, the rational part of me says that nothing can rival the PS3 in terms of number crunching for folding....

DrJohnFever, can you please clarify?

I guess I could believe 7.31 seconds per frame, but not frame per sec. He would have to have a processor matching the cell to do that. I think it may give seconds in decimals if you can get it fast enough. Mine just shows "30s/frame". I imagine if you can get to PS3 speeds, it would display the ".08s/frame".

Are you talking about the one that is currently in your sig? I checked the properties of it, and it is still being hosted from my Google Pages, so I don't think that you resized/uploaded it (at least not the one you currently have as your sig).

I really do appreciate the notice though - could you just let me know which one exactly? Thanks!

The one that I have now.. i don't know if i resized it or not.. but the mods must have changed it to say to look in the Rules of Avatar/Sig to see if it complies with the PS3forum rules.

[QUOTE="MrFenwick, post: 0]I believe he meant 7m:31s per frame. Thats how it would show it in the display.

But I could be wrong.
[/QUOTE]

Sorry for the confusion...MrFenwick is correct...I forgot the (m) ...it was 7m:31s per frame, now running at close to correct at 2m:31s per frame....but my desktop is humming along at 56s per frame...

Whoa that's weird, your signature isn't on your above (2nd last) post - it's only on your last one. Creepy.

I'm sorry if this ques. has already been asked but I would like to know
I read about this folding thing and i THought it said that the app usses all the unused cpu power that a particular machine is not using and it pushes the cpu to 100% what are the implications of pushing the ps3 that hard will it overheat or anything also what other side effects may occur
I think this is avery cool thing and for a good cause but I've only had my ps3 for 3 months if all that computing over worked her and she died I would be devistated AS I do not have another 650 to shell out for another

Probably because he changed his signature after he posted... I think this forum does not automatically update your signature on previous posts, same thing happened to me...

Mmm... weird, look at my earlier post on this same page, no signature...

oh, I know, maybe is because we did not have a signature at all so there was nothing to show on those posts, and then once you put a signature it will display the current one...

It definitely auto-updates. All of my posts have my current signature - I checked just to make sure. Even posts that I made with my old sig now have my new one.

At first, I would think that overheating may be an issue if you were to leave it on for weeks. However, I thought about a few things: This update is by Sony themselves - if the PS3 were unable to handle it, then they would face millions in warranty claims. Certainly, they know that the PS3 is capable of running the program or else they would be in jeopardy of ruining the entire console. Plus, people have reported having their PS3's on for months without ever turning it off. Obviously folding is more intensive, but if it can handle months of regular activity, it can certainly handle at least a few days of folding IMO.

Well I Dont Plan On Foldig For Months At A Time But I Thought I Would Probably Leave It On Every Night When I Go To Bed And Turn It Off Before I Go To Work And I'm Gone For Work 12 Hrs. A Day So This Should Be Enough Time For It To Rest Before I Get Home Play Games And Leave It On Over Night Agian Huh

That should definitely be fine for your PS3 IMO - what do other people thinkg? Since you have a 12 hour work day, then the most it will be on is 12 hours a day, which I think is okay for the console.

By the way, is there a reason that every word i capitalized in your last two posts - just wondering because it started messing with my mind :???:.

Right. That is unless you want to have your computer contribute :)

So when it comes out, just enter 54376 where it asks for team number and you're all set.

Ok I'll sure do it

And I would use my computer also but it is 7 years old I have given it every possible upgrade and its loaded down as it is.
I push this thing so hard any extra work load and it will crack for sure and I really can't be without a computer but I do plan on getting a brand new rig. soon and then I will let this one sit idle for folding only cause if it goes down then no real big loss
And also I will run the app. on my new one so when i get it I'll be running 3 including the ps3

OH and i'll sign them all to the team so I can contribute as much as possible

i got a hpdv 5140us laptop
2ghz AMD Turion 64 Moble Processor
2GB Ram
120GB HD
Im on a University T3 Line i believe so i get wicked fast internet, if that has anything to do with ur folding process.
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition
and i get roughly 32sec a frame, when i slow down the refresh draw to the lowest. What are your specs, and ur sec/frame?
