I figured I'd post my issue with my PS3 here since the Playstation Forums is practically pointless.
As the what the title says, I have here a 80 GB PS3 Fat. Manufactured in November 2008. Right now, it seems like this PS3 is showing its death (YLOD). I recently opened up the System to change the Thermal Paste and cleaning out the Heatsink thinking this would solve the issue. IT did lower the amount of noise that the system made before I opened it.
On Cold Boot, I fire up my PS3. Works like Normal of course. I can play Music for 20 Minutes if so desire and it wouldn't YLOD or watch Anime in HD for an hour and still wouldn't YLOD. When I pop in to play 'GTA V', the game would load then as soon as it finishes loading, the PS3 immediately goes into a 'Yellow Light' followed by a 'Red Blinking Light'. I turn it on again and the thing still boots up. I launch the game the SECOND time, it does the same thing. On the THIRD attempt, the game will work perfectly fine before it shuts off in 2-3 hours. I turn it on again and It still works fine. I launch couple of my Demos (Project Diva and Minecraft) and played them for 30-60 minutes and it still works fine. What gives?
Just today, I was downloading a Final Fantasy XIII-2 Demo on PSN. I let the PS3 stay on for over 13 Hours and it has yet to give me a YLOD. As soon as I start the actual Gameplay in this demo, the PS3 goes into a 'Yellow Light' followed by a 'Blinking Red Light'.
I'm very confused right now with this PS3. Why is it I'm able to keep this thing turned on for hours and hours and it won't YLOD. But when I play games, it simply gives up.
Is it a problem with my POWER SUPPLY or the HARD DRIVE? If this was an issue with the CPU/GPU, wouldn't it already YLOD at Boot like many PS3's I've seen? I'm not ruling out a Blu-Ray lens failure because I just had it replaced 2 years ago. Can someone please help me out with this? I don't want to buy another PS3 since we already have a PS4 and on top of that, I'm waiting for my 2 Games to ship.
