I'm so annoyed i couldn't find a 60Gb ps3. I have only just been able to search for one as i got paid today but everywhere I went its gone. I went into Currys and they said they were sold out but 80Gb PS3's would be coming in February!! I saw a 60gb on display and jokingly said if i could have that one but no luck. If anyone knows of anywhere i can find one please give me a link thanks

might as well wait for the 80GB if you want those features.

Otherwise the 40GB should be fine if you do not care about PS2 games.

Have you tried looking on the Websites of Game and Gamestation etc. Last time I checked they still had 60s bundles (R:FOM and Motorstorm £349) on the Game website...

Europe just has the 40GB and 60GB. 60GB production has been stopped, so that would only leave the 40GB.

Sony denied the 80GB for Europe, but like I said before, it's only a matter of time. When there isn't a 60GB to be found, they'll release the 80GB over here and say something like "Due to demand and research we decided to release the 80GB in Europe after all ..."
In all honesty, I never knew that the UK didn't have the 80 GB PlayStation 3 SKU.
The PAL 60GB is effectively the same SKU as the US 80GB excluding HDD size. We never had the full PS2 chipset inside our PS3's like you did - just partial emulation. 40GB are the same in all regions.

Now the US has choice of 60GB(discontinued but still available), 80GB and 40GB and all we have are the 40GB. The 60GB SKUs are long gone.

I hope the OP is correct with the 80GB SKU coming, and not the 40GB SKU with an 80GB HDD.

I work for tesco and we've none in my store. None in any shops I've been and none on their sites either, except ofcourse for the crappy 40gb one.

Yeah, I would lose a lot of my respect for them if they done that. Not much left after I found out I could get the 60gb PS3 for about £270-300 from amazon then when I finally had money to pay for it they released the 40gb here for same price and raised the 60 by £50-80

Can I ask which Currys store it was? As I work at a Currys, where the games section is my section to care of and there has been nothing of the kind sent into stores over that, infact I caught a co-employee telling customers about the 80GB the other day as he read it on the internet.

Also had a customer claiming to hear it from an employee in Toys R Us as well! As far as Currys though, nothing of the kind has been said.

If the uk get any more models, i think it will be the same as the 40gb, but just with a larger hardrive. Thats my hunch at least. Mostly since if they arent going to have people working on improving/increasing BC then they might as well not bother.

Thats just my opinion though
Guys if you want a massive hard drive for your Playstation 3 just buy the cheap 40Gb version and purchase a 300GB Hardrive and replace the 40GB its so simple, i have friends who have replaced the their 60GB playstation 3 with 500GB hardrive.
Its simple and fast, and cheaper than buying a 60Gb or 80Gb version,

Here is the info how to do it:
http://www.cnet.com.au/games/ps3/0,239035763,339282375,00.htm
I think the backwards compatability issue would be a bigger deciding factor for the choice of console over the size of the HDD.

How hard can it be to find a 60GB now? I'm hoping to get my hands on one come January, and I'm sure it won't be too difficult.

Are the 40gb PS3's that bad? I still have a PS2 so don't need the BC, so my dad got me a 40gb for xmas, not looking foreward to it as much as i was now, everyone here seems to bash them and only want the bigger models?

Nah they aren't bad. Infact they're great if you don't want PS2 compatibility or media card readers. That's why people don't like them.

They're actually better than the 60GB as they have 65nm RSX (I think) chips, so they run much cooler than the 60GB versions.

You should be looking forward to it, it is still a mega awesome machine. Don't let other people's opinions bring your excitement down.

EDIT: Oh yeah, i just had a look on eBay. Wow there are 60GBs going for £400 lol. That's almost what the original RRP was.

I wouldn't actually mind the 40gb model if my PS2 wasn't broke, but seeing as it is i want a 60gb PS3 instead of shelling out on a new 40gb PS3 as well as a PS2 which i think is just scanky.

I dont know. I quite like the idea for the new ps2 there supposed to have made. Its the slim version, but there isant the brick power supply for it as its all internal.

Light, theres no need to be feeling alittle disapointed with the 40gig. Its still a ps3, it still more or less does the same thing. Also you wont be getting wound up with the BC compatablity when you find a game that either doesnt work at all, or (more annoyingly) seems to be working fine then you hit a part and cant get any further. For example i cant get any further than the begining of the 2nd level with dante on DMC2.

I cant find the link now, but im pretty sure Sony have said that any new SKU's coming out in any country will not support BC? So no matter how big the HDD, its not gonna play PS2 or have the card readers.
