I think my prediction is on track so far. Between 10-16 million by the end of the year and 20 million by March 31, 2015.

The PS4 is selling faster than its predecessors.

PS4 Is Selling so Much Faster than PS3, PS2 and PS1 that it’s Not Even a Competition

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/02...-ps2-and-ps1-that-its-not-even-a-competition/

With 5.3 million sold through to customers since its launch in November, it’s a given by now that the PS4 is selling very fast, faster than its predecessors by Sony Computer Entertainment, but just how much faster? Thanks to NeoGaf user Aquamarine, we can catch a glimpse on that thanks to the sales data over time of all four home consoles by Sony:

PlayStation:

4 months (one territory) – March 31st, 1995 – 0.85 million
10 months – September 30th, 1995 – 1.77 million
16 months – March 31st, 1996 – 4.26 million
22 months – September 30th, 1996 – 8.07 million
28 months – March 31st, 1997 – 13.50 million

PS2:

1 month (one territory) – March 31st, 2000 – 1.41 million
7 months (one territory) – September 30th, 2000 – 3.52 million
13 months – March 31st, 2001 – 10.61 million
19 months – September 30th, 2001 – 19.58 million
22 months – December 30th, 2001 – 24.99 million

PS3:

1 month – December 31st, 2006 – 1.7 million
4 months – March 31st, 2007 – 3.5 million
7 months – June 30th, 2007 – 4.2 million
10 months – September 30th, 2007 – 5.5 million
13 months – December 31st, 2007 – 10.4 million

PS4:

1 day – November 16th, 2013 – 1 million
2 weeks – December 1st, 2013 – 2.1 million
1 month – December 28th, 2013 – 4.2 million
3 months – February 8th, 2014 – 5.3 million

From the data showcased above we can gather that PS1 took ten months to sell 1.77 million units, PS2 took seven to sell 3.52 million. PS3 needed four months to move 3.5 million units.

PS4 is, for now, outpacing them all, having sold 5.3 million in just three months. Of course initial sales aren’t everything in this market, but for the moment there’s no reason on the horizon to predict a future slow down. It’ll be interesting to see where we’ll be at the end of the year, but so far so good.
That's fast.

Now with inFamous just around the corner I expect sales to stay at this insane rate. Sony nows need to invest more in their production stage to try and meet demand. I still cannot find a single PS4 in my city anywhere, and I am not alone (even though I already own one, it is fun to try and look).

Yeh same here. Every time when I stop by a GameStop I'd ask about the PS4. Most of the time it's sold out, or 1-2 left in stock lol.

So since this is a official thread for PS4 sales-related topics. Why doesn't the OP update to show some numbers?

Something like

As of Dec 2013 - 4.2 Million
As of Feb 2014 - 5.3 Million

Just a thought :/

Good call. I updated the post. Doesn't have to be the OP. Any staff should be able to update the numbers as they are reported.

These sales numbers are incredible. With Infamous SS coming out, there will be another huge bump in sales (add me into that number :) ). I just hope Sony can find a way to keep up with the demand.

Hasn't overtaken the Wii U's lifetime sales yet.

PS4 - 5.3 million
Wii U - Approx 6 million

Japan launch will no doubt push it over though.
