You think they might drop the price from $300 to $250 later this year? I can only imagine the Black Friday deals.

I expect them to make it an official price drop this year. I think they have squeezed all the profits possible out of the $300 price range. It's time for them to start thinking forward and having 10's of millions more into their ecosystem going into the backwards compatible(hopefully) PS5.

The latest sales and numbers (via Gematsu):

Worldwide total shipments for PlayStation 4 have reached 79 million, as of March 31, 2018.

A total of 2.5 million PlayStation 4s were shipped during the fourth quarter, which is down 0.4 million from the same period the previous fiscal year.

For the fiscal year in its entirety, a total of 19 million PlayStation 4s were shipped, which is down one million from the previous fiscal year.

For fiscal year 2018, which runs from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, Sony expects to ship 16 million PlayStation 4s to reach a total of 95 million units. While this is a decrease from previous years, the company expects it to be offset by an increase in PlayStation 4 software sales.

Additional stats:

PlayStation Plus subscribers topped 34.2 million as of March 31, 2018, which is up 7.8 million from the previous fiscal year.

PlayStation 4 software sold 246.9 million units in fiscal year 2017, which is up 29 million from the previous fiscal year.

96.8 million units shipped worldwide, as of March 31st.

Sony shipped a total of 17.8 million PlayStation 4s in fiscal year 2018, which is down 1.2 million from the 19 million shipped in fiscal year 2017, but 0.3 million more units than Sony’s forecast of 17.5 million.

Sony forecasts it will sell 16 million PlayStation 4s in fiscal year 2019, which runs from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

PlayStation Plus subscribers topped 36.4 million as of March 31, 2019, which is up 2.2 million from the previous fiscal year.

PlayStation 4 software sold 54.7 million units in the fourth quarter, which is up 2.7 million from the previous fiscal year. 45 percent of those sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 43 percent the previous year.

It looks to me like PS4 sales are on a bit of a decline. Sony also confirmed that the PS5 won't launch until the latter half of 2020 - most likely in November, if I had to guess.

The ps4 is still outpacing the PS2 despite facing stronger competition(xbone and Switch sold more than xbox and gamecube) and costing more money. That is crazy.

The PS4 is now the fastest console to reach 100m. 1Billion games sold. This is why Sony isn't worried about cutting the price. At this point I'm tired of guess when they'll cut the price lol.

Business is booming yet people are blaming the decline on another console due to the generation ending lol. 1Billion games sold? Holy moly and I doubt that counys digital so physical is still dominating.
Digital is bigger now on PS4 than physical according to their financial statement.

Awesome news about the sales of the PS4! I counted towards two of those! PS4 original then PS Pro! Represent!

That's for the quarter. I am talking about total sales.
Pretty sure Sony includes digital and physical sales of their games in all their quarterly results. They did this past quarter, so don't know why they wouldn't include it in previous quarters.

Would've been much higher indeed if there were more ps4 available for sure.. in Norway the number was incrediable low. I think 10 000 machines were available here. I was offered 600 $ over what I bought mine for :p
