I remember too... crazy huh?
Yeah, we know. I've asked for Captcha to be used but the Admins don't seem to be listening.
Yeah a Captcha would probably help a whole lot to prevent the spammers from registering

Yeah, I am a long retired Moderator though. My banning days are over. ;)

Meh, let them come, Mods and SMCs signed up to control it. If I were an admin of a forum (which I have been but not to this degree) and my board was being spammed I would be looking to my staff to control it not at a forum redesign

Quick register is a useful feature that shouldn't be taken away because of spammerz

Sadly something needs to be changed. Its not gonna stop if they have easy access.

No it won't stop. It's solely up to the admin to change it, if spam is affecting the forum to enough degree that it impacts forum usage then it'll be taken away

The shop was taken down when there was that certain issue. Spam is an every day thing, at my work it got really bad with one of the main email accounts people used that our internet operations department stopped creating accounts

If things get that out of hand then something will be done, if it's manageable, quick reg will stay

To be quite honest, the Mods and SMCs need all of the help they can get. Captcha would be a good thing.

My answer to that would be to appoint more of them, if there was a need

Again, admins choice

the mods do a good job of taking care of them... Yea youll still get spam bots with captcha just on a less degree. This also keeps the mods alert and shows which ones arent doing there job

It has gotten pretty frequent over the last few months and I think the admin staff have enough on their plate taking care of actual forum members without worrying about spam. If something can be done to cut on spam accounts and lighten work for the admin I think it should be done.

The only people that can make the call on the spam problem are people who have access to the server logs to see where the traffic is coming from

If the post gets perma deleted no one can put a IP ban up

Proxy servers are also an issue. If somoene wants to spam they'll spam, if someone wants to steal your car, your car is gone

Half of the threads that the new members spam posts to get are the ones that are simple questions. We have more than enough threads for these simple questions. The newer members need to see that and post there.

As for the spam bots: I can't stand them. I dunno how there can be so many. Does anyone even click the links they leave?

Then stop worrying about it until an admin does something? :p Probably the best way to get your point across, if you have one.

trouble is the only regular admin has retired and its not likely that anything will be done for some time.
