Intro scene and Intro itself are done well.
I tried to forget that Drunkman is involved in this series. Joel's daughter is blackwashed and doesn't have her southern accent. Starts in the daytime and an attempt to make us "forget" about the BW. Changed Joel's watch being a birthday present to a broken one and she goes to a watch shop to get it fixed. The fact she worked for the money and saved it to buy the watch is part of what made the intro and Sarah good. In fact, this focus on the BW daughter completely demeans Sarah.
This first episode is drawing out what should've been a short "normal" time before SHTF and they have to run.
It's night at least but instead of Sarah waking and the neighbor breaking in with Joel killing it he just calmly walks into the house.
The watch scene is good. 😆
So far, the BW is not good. I know how it "might" sound but wash any character and he/she/it is ruined. All aspects of a character are relevant. Acting is subjective and people are hired for roles b/c of their skin color, hair color, sex, etc. when they can better match the character. By now, Sarah should've been shot and we should see the Chapter One of the game. Not sorry but Sarah should've been dead by now.
23 minutes is when the SHTF starts. Far too long. Some minute changes are good but so far there's too much.
*We should not expect nor push for a 1:1 adaptation."
Tommy gets separated from Sarah and Joel. I know he was instrumental in helping them get away.
Final pre-SHTF scene is good though not the same as the original.
First start I'm not fond of and thankfully it's short.
Public execution scene (New). Smuggling Joel is good Joel. Halfway through I'd say 90% is good and accurate. The rest is a mixed back of D.
Tess scene is new. Pretty sure we didn't meet her like that nor would it have happened that way.
Not the way we meet Ellie either. She was never a prisoner of the Fireflies.
I can see a few scenes being something that happened that we never saw but of the 10% most are not legit.
I get trying to elaborate on the Fireflies.Starting Ep. 1 will too much on them or anyone is bad as revelation later adds instead of breaking the mystery early on.
Escape scenes are done well.
A long first episode but necessary. A great story...doesn't give everything nor cuts out too much.
Like millions, I have played TLoU so many times. First on PS3, PS4, and eventually PS5. The story, not the atrocious DLC, and characters (not Riley) are great. If this doesn't change into the trash Hollywood has become then it could be a good, long standing series.
