This isn't officially posted, but through some small amounts of research I found that Bungie is going to release a beta FAQ tomorrow. First I saw this:

http://forums.xbox.com/10316191/ShowPost.aspx

Seaysaw: Does anyone know if the revolutionary function of the X button will be revealed and available for use in the beta? Or will we have to wait until the release?

KP: I'll address this question tomorrow in the Beta FAQ we're going to post. :)
Now, KP is also know as KPaul on Bungie.net, and he does a lot of the community stuff, including many of the updates. Now, I never knew what his actual gamertag was so instead of assuming KP was his gamertag, I reseached it (i know, I'm super smart!).

So I went to the last community spotlight:

http://www.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx?uid=130

Yep, KPaul's gamertag is KP. So, I assume we get a FAQ tomorrow along with the secret to the X button. Exciting times.

Your point? Did I indicate something other than that?

along with info on the X button!
Thats what it sounds like at first glance yes, sounds like something more than whether it will be in or not.

I said info though, not "Along with exactly what the X button will do".

There is a difference.

I'm not arguing or criticizing you, I just saying I initially interpreted what you said at first glance.

Back on topic, I predict the x button will be a responding no.

But it is probably the shield. As it is not shown as the fourth grenade in the HUD
$10 says it's just a sprint button.
I wasn't thinking "sprint" exactly, I was thinking more of a dash. You know like the dash when you use the sword in Halo 2, or when you melee someone. I was thinking that they are going to exagerate the movement a little bit for the button and get rid of the automatic dash when you do a melee. So now, you'll have to hit X then B to do a melee attack if you aren't right next to the enemy.

Nah, bungie already denounced that, saying it would not fit the methodical pace of halo.

Hey that is a great idea! I love it. It would make the sword so much more balanced, cause "n00bs" couldn't just pick it up, aim and kill, they would have to do a little more work, and be a lot more coordinated.

Good thought.

If it doesn't have a cover system like Vegas it's gonna ****in' suck!

Imagine how cool that would be...it would make the gameplay vary alot, unlike Halo 2.

I think Halo would suck with a cover system.

It doesn't fit with the world of Halo. You are a spartan and you are 10x better than everyone else, why would you take cover beyond just staying behind a corner?

I'm with Perfect Sin on this . Its most likely a sprint button .

I don't know how that would fit in with the Halo universe. I mean, half the time you would mostly want the sprint button for CTF games... but it would defeat the purpose of giving the flag carrier half speed...

Hopefully it's a button you can use when you see someone in mp using the sword - it forces them into 320 x 160 resolution working at 4 colors, bit like a Wii experience (J/K)

You have to be joking about the cover system. That kind of mechanic would be a radical change to the game.

If cover was ever in halo it would wreck the game.

Also, if cover was ever implemented, I would boycott it. But obviously bungie isn't stupid enough to put cover in halo so I have no worries.

The X button is going to be for something really original, like... Slow motion!

Nah, I got no idea of what's it going to be, and I don't really care either, it's probably just going to be something very lame.

the X button gives you the power of flying at the cost of your weapons. To kill someone, just do a fly-by and peck em.

To be honest, your argument lost a bit of its sting with the last part of your comment. Bungie, makers of the biggest selling game for the Xbox of all time, can't really be seen as being "retarded". :)

Let's face it. The controller for the 360 has changed, we have bumper buttons in addition to those from before. I don't see why bungie shouldn't go over the controls again and make sure they a) are the best they can be through listening to feedback from Halo and Halo 2, and b) suit the game they are pushing out later this year.

I don't know what the 'x' will do, but I am sure their controls will be balanced.

X button is to use your heat vision, and or night vision.

I have no clue.

Maybe you get to kick people! You know it would compliment the melee.

I would love kicking people in the ass online.

And have advanced physics accurately map the path and trajectory of your boot up the anal cavity , then have your boot stuck up the bum as you pull your foot out and take a photo to share on LIVE with your friends

We need some more humour in action games .

 wow serious Halo hater. Who exactly is getting 'excited over a mute button'? The mute button is just a convenience feature, obviously they will be adding more than just a mute button. Its easy enough for you, sitting there at your computer, to criticise the developers of one of the most popular console game franchises. Why don't you pull a new feature out of your arse?

Im not even a Halo fan boy, so i'd hate to think what they would have to say to your childish comment.

Seriously, this forum should employ some kind of crap filter, so half the crap comments such as your own wouldn't even see the light of day.

The addition of the mute button isn't there to just say "hey we added a new feature"

The mute button is more like saying "hey fans, we care about you're experience online, and we understand that little 12 year olds that use profanity in every sentence gets annoying"
