Don't buy an iPad for gaming if that's your intention. And a laptop would be a cheaper and better solution if you intend to use it as a computer. That's my two cents.

This is a biased thread. Its like going to an apple forum and asking the same question.

I wanted to get a tablet myself, after putting much thought into it, I decided against it. Tablets in my opinion are all hype. I can't see what more can a tablet do than a mini-tablet) a phone can't do.

If I need something quick and mobile to look up, I'm not going to use my big ol tablet, I'm going to use my phone. If I have homework I have to type, I'm not going to use a tablet, I'm going to use my netbook. if you get an ipad, and decided you indeed want to use it old school, you can get the keyboard attachment. Just what we need, more accessories, considering the price.

Pretty silly invention, Its a bragging purchase that does nothing, just to appease the mind of the bourgeoise. I guarantee you, you're not going to pay attention to it in less than 3 months.

Am I saying get the vita? Nope, not saying that either. Just giving you my perspective on tablets. You should go to the apple store, than go to Best Buy/Gamestop and compare and sit down and think about it real thorough.

What do you like about the ipad/psv?

What has you excited for the ipad/psv?

What new features do ipad/psv introduce?

etc, etc.

I would get an iPad, especially if you are in need of a computer, yet only have a need for mostly web browsing. We have 2 computers and one laptop at home. None of them are getting used anymore since we got this iPad a year ago. Between the three of us, we use it about 3 hours every day. I can't see going back to PC either. The Vita (and phone) is too small for browsing, yet a laptop is really too large for compared portability.

A great example for me...The wife and I have taken the iPad on our last two cruises. Sitting back on the serenity deck reading the news or books on it was a god send compared to trying to read it on a tiny phone or some cumbersome laptop while laying out. The only thing I would do different is I would have got 3G. But as more and more places have free wifi, the need has been eliminated.

The game play won't be as good as a Vita, but it does do games and much more. Battery life is probably double the Vita as well.

It may not be for you though. I would never say that this or the Vita is wasted money or would be a purchase soley to keep up with the Jones. It all come down to which product will have a better VALUE for you. $250 Vita or $500 iPad. Double the price...is double worth it for you?
Why compare the two? They don't serve the same purpose.
For gaming I don't think there is any question that the Vita would be better. It comes down to what you intend to use one for. Is it something that that Kindle Fire can do? If so, you can get both the PSVita and the Kindle Fire for the price of the iPad 2/3.

With all of the new tablets coming out this year there may be other cheaper tablets (than the iPad 2/3) that can do what you are wanting one for. There will probably even be some nice sales in the later half of this year.

I was considering buying a tablet myself, but with competition picking up it seemed that next year would be a better time to start looking into one.

Some of this can be said about the PSVita as well. The price will eventually so by waiting you can potential get it a lot cheaper (system+accessories+games). You shouldn't have any trouble finding any games later on either (such as hard to find jrpgs) due to all of the games being offered digitally.

We have had an ipad 1 pretty much from launch and it is used every day, mainly due to the convenience and ease of browsing on the sofa. They are crap for games or for any "real" computing though. Apple can release apps like Words and Numbers (word processor/spreadsheet apps) but they are not really a viable alternative to the real thing on a PC/laptop.

Depends on what you are looking for
Want a dedicated gaming device with some console style games? Get the Vita
Now I love my iPad 2 and I loved my iPad 1 it's great for watching video, surfing the web, viewing pics but when it comes to games on it I get very bored really quick

I have an ipad and use it everyday. Mostly as an e-reader (I have about a hundred books loaded on it at the moment), but I also use it for game faqs/walkthroughs, email, web browsing, and the occasional youtube video. I have games for it, but I rarely play them. I need real buttons and better games, which the PS Vita will provide. So in my case it's not one or the other; it's both. :)

I have a 9" net book that costs 2/3 of an iPad that can do and store so much more and is just as portable with a real QWERTY keyboard that doesn't ask me to hit a button to access the numpad plus a 6 hour battery life. I can use it for Open Office, media editing, etc etc. When I travel it is the hub that charges, and stores data for, all my other electronics (GPS watch, Kindle, DSi, PSP, Vado, camera etc).

But if I were to get a tablet, I will get a Kindle Fire. $199, Cloud storage, portable even.

Playing on a touch screen has been one of my worst experiences ever as a gamer, so if it's for gaming, then ps vita all the way!
Bought a tegra 2 LG thinking i could play all kinds of great games and thinking mobile gaming was gonna be the next big thing...big mistake, what a waste of money! Seriously the most i can play on it is angry birds or that kind of stuff, thats how much it annoy's me. Real games need real controls like d-pad and analog sticks.

I've been thinking the same thing recently and personally I'm going to go for the Vita instead of an iPad, just because i realised i wanted an iPad because it would be quicker than starting up my laptop for web browsing, plus it would be better than looking up things on my iPhone.

So I decided to avoid spending money because of my impatience and go for a promising handheld to go with my 3DS :) Bring on the epic selection of games!
