Where are all the old members from 2006-2008 gone?

This was one of my favourite forums back in the day, back when it was called 'PS3-Forums'. Had a super active community and the threads were always active.

I fell out of love with the forums once a certain user took over and started running the show so I moved over to other forums but I did like to pop back here every few months to see what was going on but it just got quieter and quitter.

Where did everyone move to? I'm still in daily contact with a few of the OGs from here but what about everyone else?

Only names I've seen on here that I actually remember is my good friend @Shingo, I remember @keefy and @Fijiandoce from the PC forums but other than that - no idea!

Was dropping by as I was bored but sad to see this place is a ghost town these days

Over the years the website has transferred through several hands and the last team let the site / forums kind of die. I was part of the original crew that launched the site back in 2006/07, merging PS3portal.com and PS3Land.com to launch PSU as we know it today. Back then the forums were super active and sometimes got more traffic than our main site.

11 years later (I left in 2010 when Seb & Kieran sold the site to move their focus to Playfire), I hit up the new team and asked if I could come back and help out. I've written a few features, news, and one review recently. Although, my main focus has been on media like updating our Wallpapers section and managing the Youtube channel. I'm also interested in helping get the forums active again.

I think we're starting to see some of the old member come back. Understandably we're living in 2021 when a lot of people have moved their gaming discussions to things like social media, Twitch, and Discord...but we could still have a tight community here. I'm all ears on ideas.

I'm guessing Junglist is BBK? I remember he was big into jungle and DnB like me.

These days I don't even have a working console (even my N64 and PS1 have died) or PC and not done any gaming since about 2018.
You guys are into DnB? What are some groups you like? I used to be heavy into the EDM scene. Worked for USC Events and Insomniac with throwing festivals. Dirtyphonics, Pendulum, Netsky, Sub Focus, Knife Party....

And that sucks about your consoles not working anymore. Any plans on getting a PS5 when stock becomes available?

I plan to get a ps5 eventually just too much a pita at the moment.
More older stuff
General levy, Mbeat, omni trio, DJ Hype, Ray Keith, DJ ss

I did have a thread with some old school jungle on here but can't find it.

20 years after the massive hit General levy has not lost anything

Yeah man, I am BBK. I did try and log in but I can't remember my password so my account got locked lol.

I was trying to last minute impulse buy a PS5 at the launch but couldn't get one so decided to give my home theatre a boost and bought a sonos sub instead. Will be buying a PS5 down the line at some point I imagine unless Sony do a solid and release some more old PS4 and eventually PS5 games on the PC.

I'm still here and don't see much activity here like before. I miss those gaming icons we had in the system settings to put them under the user names.:)
There's still a few of us lurking the forums on a daily basis. I'm doing my best to help generate daily threads. I could use some help on creating OT threads for games and keeping them updated. Also, user reviews of games you guys are playing with unique in-game screenshots would be great. It'll help create entertaining discussions and can appear in search engine searches to help garner new members. Tips & Tricks / Strategies on games you guys are playing would be cool too.

I stopped getting games for my systems and moved to PC as since last year when I have sold out all my systems and items to build a gaming PC. I used to get games early about 4 days before the releasing date and post review about it in the OT thread but not getting much any more.

A good number of convos these days take place on reddit and/or discord. While there are still a few forums very active, they are a thing of the past for the most part.

29 Mar 2007 I joined! If half of what I'd proposed to implement as Admin had been supported by the original owners this place could've really been special but they just let it fester and bring in money for them to spend on doing Playfire. Forums have been superseded by better tech now but you can't beat the kind of community this place had back then.

Yeah this forum used to be my main source of gaming news/discussions back in the day! I like to browse around here once in a while for nostalgias sake. Unfortunately forums aren’t really that popular anymore and have been superseded by the likes Reddit and Discord! But this place will always have a special place for me.

Do you guys think we should have an official PSU Discord? And just use the forums for posting community reviews and what not?

This place used to make me laugh. I would stay up to early hours in the morning and there would be people posting anytime of the day it was very active. A lot of the old members have gone maybe IRL issues. I still like to pop my head in once in a while.

I am surprised there are still the "old skool" members that make thread's about new releases for the Playstation, but there are never reply's in the threads anymore it just stands still.

It is still good to see all the familiar face's a Discord will be a fantastic idea it might pull in more punters.

Pretty sure there are Discord integrations for Xenforo. Above my pay-grade tho.
I tried to create a Discord channel for PSU forum members, but didn't turn out. I'm not that familiar with Discord's features outside of basic chat.

If there's a way to integrate Discord with our Xenforo forum template that would be cool. I could help pitch it to the site owners.

I'm not too sure on creating your own server in discord either, never had the need.

I did come across this:
https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xf2-8wr-discord-integration.6058/

... but as i say, above my pay grade here. Someone will have to review the plug-in for security, stability etc. and how it may affect the site overall - We had that 'bank' thing back in the day which basically crippled the forums and had to be removed.

Just a note on the usergroups as it relates to the video above: I don't know if it's that way as a carry over from a carry over during upgrades over the years between php/vb etc., but our usergroups are split. The bulk (practically all) of our users don't use the default usergoup (as is shown in the video). Any new account is eventually moved from the default usergoup into the one everyone else is in.

Thought I'd pop in for the first time in many, many years.

Somehow ended up going on a huge nostalgia trip as I've managed to order a PS5 which is arriving (hopefully) on Friday. I really do miss this place, those 08-11 days were amazing, amazing times. You could feel the forum dying by 11 and I moved over to NeoGAF and now ultimately Discord and Reddit have long replaced forums.

I'd be interested in joining a Discord though and seeing if we could pull any oldies back together. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

It's unfortunate that so many people have moved on from forums. I do like the convenience of modern chat platforms like discord and reddit, but to me there's a charm to the slower and more community focused nature of forums. I miss how active this place used to be. But I guess people got older and moved on.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate. I personally really prefer forums to chats. Chats feel way more superficial and you have to sit there and watch over posts that go by in real time. On forums you can make longer (and deeper) posts, if you want, and you can just check in and read/post in your own pace, leave and come back later to read/post new stuff. To me that is the format and the kind of convenience that I prefer. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this forum is getting any more active, despite some of us trying to be active and breathe some life into this forum.
