Which model PS1 is better, old or new slim?

I did not have PS1 before! I had the PS2 start from. 25 years later today I have decided to have a go for a fun experience, I went on eBay to see few old models and new slim for sale. There is a lot of slim console listing as 'not working' it makes me wonder the new slim console reliable must that bad as the old one?

Does anyone know or heard the best model number of PS1 console, the most good reliability?

ah! Forget it, my friend has the answer, PS1 was the third bestseller by 10 million people, with no answer!
