On Red Dwarf....

Greeting fellow forum dwellers!

Well, it's getting near the end of the year and I think pretty much everyone will agree that the PS4 has had a pretty damn fine year for games and is nicely hitting it's stride now.

Soon enough various corporate bodies and websites will be announcing their GOTY but let's concentrate on the one that really matters, the PSU Forums. As you have already observed (for as a user of this forum chances are you are both highly perceptive and physically attractive) I have created a poll, if there's a game I've missed out that you strongly feel should be there let me know below and I'll add it. I'll run this for a few weeks then announce the winner near Santa's birthday next month.

I'll start off by giving my GOTY to Fallout 4. Despite only having this game a few days it has massively impressed me with it's atmosphere, depth of gameplay and the improvements on it's predecessor in pretty much every way. Over to you my friends.....

Well, that's it! The results are all in, so without further ado the winner of the PSU Forum PS4 GOTY is: (drum roll)

Fallout 4!

If a Bethesda representative can meet me outside Vault 111 in 2288, December 23 (watch out for Super Mutants) I will present them the coveted 1st prize of the Golden Cock. Honourable mentions go to MGS V and Bloodborne, gaining the okay silver and shameful bronze.

Thanks to all who voted.

I think for depth, story and pure replay-ability it has to be Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for me, still not completed it but thoroughly enjoy my time in the game world when I do play it, so it's my game of the year!

Oh and you still and always will be a smeg head!

Fallout 4 for me. Bloodborne and The Witcher are both good candidates, but I've played F4 the most.

I went with MGS5.

The one thing i like about MGS is the ability to switch up the way you play. The open world setting took away some of the narrative, but it put in its place something for the player to play around, and experiment with - which i really enjoy.

I would probably have said Fallout, but i haven't played it, and although MGS5's narrative may be the weaker in the series, it's still a lot better than Fallouts narrative (a guess on my part, but i doubt i would be wrong..... It's fallout for pete's sake :p).

I got done with mission 43 over the weekend, that mission was rough. I kinda had to square that shit with myself before i continued :snicker

I go with bloodborne too, most of the games are amazing on that list, but bloodborne has something unique with it.

Witcher 3 is my GOTY. I enjoyed pretty much every minute of the game.

Fallout 4 looks really good, but I haven't played it, so...

Having not played Fallout, Bloodborne and Witcher my selections are slightly different.

For single player I'd be going with AC Syndicate, IMO it really put AC back where it belongs amongst black flag and AC2. London was recreated beautifully, playing as 2 assassins added some much needed dynamic to the series, I really enjoyed building up my gang base and levelling up my characters. The story was clear from start to finish with what the aim was and there was plenty of variety on how you wanted to complete missions.

For online it would be Black Ops III. Probably not amongst many others favorites but it's been released little over 10 days to a fortnight and I've lost over 30 hrs in multiplayer alone. The specialists and the abilities they come with always gives you something to work on and build up if you struggle with getting some of the big score streaks and can give you the edge when trying to capture bases or just fancy a bonus weapon for some time like the flame thrower.

I don't think I've never seen a game with so many challenges to complete, there's a huge amount of skins, attachments, camos etc as well as personalisation and weapon paints etc.

Then there's how online plays and for me it's been absolutely fantastic. I've only suffered 1 or 2 lag moments and 1 of them was my own fault leaving some pron downloading at 18mb/s ;)
Majority of the weapons have a unique feel, the boosting around has been severely toned down since advanced warfare which is welcomed and then there's the new various lethal and tactical grenades.
I've currently got 3 gold camos for SMG'S and working on the fourth, there is always something to be working on and purely depends on your play style.

Normally COD has been associated with KDR rather than playing objectively but that hasn't been the case in a lot of my games during Domination. Most if not all are aiming to capture the points and at the end of the rounds players are finishing up with 7-12 captures from a game. It really keeps the action intense and makes for some very close games.

I'd say my only disappointment in it is that there aren't many secondary weapons.

I haven't touched the campaign yet so have not unlocked the Nightmares mode once complete and haven't touched Zombies mode neither. The game is cram packed with content to keep you here for a long while and has even made me cancel some pre orders purely because I know I'll be on this for a long while. I'm really getting a MW2/Black Ops I vibe from the game and I've not had this much fun with a COD game since those 2.

If I were to pick 1 from my 2 mentioned games though, it'd be COD every time purely for the replayability.

This poll should be a bit later. Most people haven't completed Fallout 4, and the novelty of the game gives it an edge.

So far I suspect it will still remain between Witcher 3 and Bloodborne. I'm going with Witcher 3. There were a lot of quality games this year.

I'm playing it now. I really like it so far. It's like a more polished Dead Island with parkour, I liked the Dead Island games (1 and Riptide) too. So far it's on second or third place (this year) for me.

An unforgettable experience with one of the best stories I've come across in gaming. Highly recommended.
What do you mean by best story? I know nothing about the game because I usually skip horror games. But if story is good than i am usually in. Why it's story is unique? Twists? Betrayal? Can u describe it with a few words? And what is the horror level?

The creator, Frictional Games, put out "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" five years ago with the goal of creating the scariest game ever made. I've never played it, but apparently they achieved that goal according to all the impressions I hear.

Anywho, with "SOMA" they decided to focus less on pure horror and more on "existential horror". Basically, the story is very thought-provoking and nightmarish in a way. I'd say only 20-30% of the game is a pure horror experience where you're trying to avoid monsters. It's mostly a dark, atmospheric, story-driven adventure game.
I've read it's at its best in its quiet moments.
The one main flaw of the game is that the hide-and-seek monster sections often aren't very fun. They involve a lot of sitting and waiting in a corner until the monster goes away. I would have given SOMA a perfect score if dealing with the monsters was more interesting. With that said, those hide-and-seek sections don't make up a big chunk of the game and they still produced a few really tense scenarios.

Most of the game involves learning more about a very cool setting and basking in the atmosphere.

My personal GOTY is Bloodborne. That game was just an awesome ride. The Witcher 3 is a close second. Until Dawn was great. I'm enjoying the hell out of Fallout 4 now. What a year for gaming.

Hopefully I will be able to play Fallout 4 by the end of the year, but so far my vote goes to The Phantom Pain. I have only played it on the PS3, so I will not be casting my vote in this poll. I still felt it needed a shout out though. Very entertaining game.

P.S I cannot see if TPP is even in the poll because I'm on tapatalk, so please ignore my post if it isn't.

It was between Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, and MGS5.

I ended up choosing Metal Gear Solid V. I spent the most hours playing that game this year, and it made me want to play all day everyday. I would think about the game while working. Thinking about finishing my decks as fast as possible so I can get home and jump back on Metal Gear.

It takes a special game to do that to me, and that is why I chose MGSV. I think I have over 200 hours invested in the game so far.
