OP should have waited til Just Cause 3 was at least out. Not all the major games have released yet for this year.

I choose Life is Strange.

^Came out last year, but yeah! Criminally overlooked.
MGS5 easy. Fallout 4 sure is fun, but it's a bugfest so it's not worthy of GOTY.
The bugs aren't even an issue. Despite 25fps slugfest. Despite 0.5 percent time spent in single digit fps encounters on PS4. Despite spending half your time in menus. Despite all that it's the GOTY.

I've still yet to see this bug riddled game everyone talks about. Fallout NV... that was a bug riddled game. This game so far is 10X more stable than any Bethesda title I've ever played.
This game was amazing. A wonderful return to the RPG styles of old. And it had full-blown co-op without any sort of restrictions, players couple completely separate and go do their own thing. More games need to take notice. And it was a was Kicksarter title too! What a world we live in where the smaller/indie development teams consistently kick the ass of major studios.

Originally released last year but the PS4 version came out recently. Fans of couch-coop or RPGs definitely need to check it out.

Not on PlayStation. If other games can be part of GOTY that came out years before (on PlayStation) and this can't that was initially only on PC this time last year and not on PlayStation, then that makes zero sense. It's a new title for PlayStation. :p

Out of those games I have played MGS5, Fallout4 & Batman,F4 is the best single player game I played in 4 last years, it definitely gets my vote.

How does it compare to Diablo III?

It's a completely different game altogether. Divinity is a turn based strategy RPG, basically a proper DnD game. If you're looking at it on the story side of things though, Divinity crushes Diablo III, but the gameplay for both games are completely different.

My game of the year is still SOMA, but I want to give some honorable mentions to a couple games I just beat:

A very charming and heartwarming adventure with an obviously unique art-style. The gameplay involves plenty of creativity and the combat provides you with a lot of different options for dispatching foes. The ending is cute as hell and really makes you reflect on the game. Oh, and shout out to the funny NPC voices.

The visuals and presentation are beautifully done, and the characters are generally believable and well-written, but most importantly you're constantly making choices that significantly affect the story. Also, unlike most horror games that invoke more of a stressful sense of fear due to seeing a "Game Over" screen and having to re-play the level, Until Dawn feels more fun in its horror since dying is just part of the game (depending on your choices). This is probably the first "Choose Your Story" game that I'll actually want to replay.

Gotcha. I looked it up and it's not my type of game, but I'm glad you guys are enjoying it.

SOMA is fantastic. It's more of a philosophical-spooky game than spooky-scary though. But it's got a cool narrative and the environment is awesome.

Why is uncharted in there lol.

EDIT: I gave mine to Star Wars even though there's not enough content for a proper GotY but for what it does, it is the best iteration of Star Wars game I've ever seen. it's truly truly like living in the Star Wars world. the only way i can see this getting better if it were a proper MMO. from the locations, sounds effects to music to even voice acting and dialogue, it really feels like I'm watching a star wars movie unfold (through a battle scene)...funnily enough it's a reptitive shooter lol.

I would give it to Fallout 4 but as cool as this game is, it's not nearly as fresh as Star Wars is. I might sound like a hypocrite because Star Wars is based off BF games and it's similar in a lot of ways but it's also not at all similar in a lot of ways. Seems like some of the inspiration is there (duh, same dev and engine) but the gameplay and feel is very authentic.

If there was one game that kept my interest, it's Star Wars. Dunnn dunnn dun dun, dun dun dunnn, dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn...

Best looking sure, but best iteration? Not even remotely close. If you honestly think that it feels like watching a movie, then go play the original Battlefront games, now you're really in a true epic Star Wars battle there. On top of that you can play Star Wars: The Old Republic if you want to play a Star Wars MMO. EA's Star Wars Battlefront seriously is a shell of what the original Battlefront games are and wrought with problems.

I can not believe people are voting for Fallout 4 as the game of the year........

Poor graphics
Glitches galore
Lacks a proper tutorial
Poor frame rate

I am sorry, but these issues do not equal a game of the year.

The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Bloodborne, all blow Fallout away. I think people were voting for Fallout 4 because it just came out and it was the new hottness. I bet if this poll was erased and created again next week, the votes would be different..

Nope. I still think Fallout 4 would win. It's simply fantastic.

I say this as someone who up until 2 weeks ago hated Bethesda games yet I'm loving this game. Everything about it is fantastic. The shooting mechanics, the world, the atmosphere, the characters and especially the music. Nothing feels as special as killing a group of super mutants with Nat King Cole playing in the back.

Out of all the open world games I've bought this year (GTA:V, MGS:V, TW3) none of them hold a candle to Fallout. I'm only 35 hours in yet I feel I haven't even scratched the surface yet.

I think the shooting sucks ass lol.

For me, I am already bored with Fallout 4. None of those other games had me feeling bored at any time. Maybe it is because it feels like a remastered version of Fallout 3. The only thing I really like about Fallout 4, is the ability to build my own town. I actually spend all my time doing that and don't even care about the rest of the game.

He pretty much mentions almost everything others having been saying and criticising the game for, but he's missed a lot too. So I shall pass across two more videos that mentions what he does and goes much deeper into the game.

This exactly. It just isn't exciting me unfortunately, can't get the buzz. 2+ days playtime in and I've gone all floppy.

Maybe because I never played the older games but I'm loving it. I've only come across one bug in my 30 odd hours, which is quite a severe bug (I have to limit my frame-rate to 60fps before leaving a terminal otherwise the game crashes), but other than that it's been solid.

the shooting is hard in this game, especially on the consoles so i give you that but the shooting is supposed to be a hit and miss because it's an RPG, not a shooter. which can turn off people but i don't mind it because i don't think of it as a shoot but rather an RPG like valkryie chronicles.

oh yeah i don't disagree at all, in fact, if you go to the OT, you will find that i complained the most XD but once i played the game in third person and seeing how i've been wanting a proper 3rd person game for so long. this became a unique thing for me. here i have a game by DICE who have provided me with the best online shooter (BF4) and I love Star Wars (seen all episodes, even the stupid ones) and i haven't played a good third person shooter in like i donno 10 years.

so this became a very special game for me. also because this is one of the very few games (even BF4 doesn't have this) that you don't need to "aim" to shoot, you can take out people even at medium and sometimes long-range without even pressing the aim button, but of course it helps when you zoom in but it's not required and most of the time, i work on my footwork rather than aim to be strategic, which makes the battles unlike any other shooter out there, except SOCOM which again i haven't played in over 10 years.

my only issue with it is the content. BUT i knew that they would have to add more content to please their users which they are trying but i'm not letting that go, i still think that's worth a class action suit against EA and i've written quite a bit about their devious practices.

but it's a bittersweet sort of thing for me, DICE are a great developer and I have a huge dislike for their publisher so while I complain about them, i can't stop myself from playing their games because they just make good games.

i can already confirm that i'm pretty much done with all the unlocks in the game, yeah that's pathetic considering I still need to unlock attachments on BF4 after 2 years of the game being out and i still haven't experienced so many weapons in the game. also they keep coming out with fresh content on BF4, we just had a couple of new maps for free and one more coming out this month.

anyway back to star wars, the reason why i picked it as GotY isn't by looking at the game for what it is and not what it needed to be in order to be a proper battlefront sequel. because i haven't played the older battlefront game and i never will because i like next-gen stuff lol, for me this game is pretty fun playing online in 3rd person. even without the content, that's what level cap said as well. and i have similar complaints as he does too but overall you can see him still saying it's a great game because of how authentic it feels to the movies, which i agree with, in fact, there are maps in the game that look very close to how they were in the movie. which is definitely a great experience.

overall i think it's the best game this year because there aren't any other games i can think of on the PS4. not counting PC or X1. or...Wii U...

P.S. it has the best implementation of a jet pack i've ever seen. it's strategic without being too much. it's used as a defensive way to play (has a 20 sec cooldown) but can be used to attack but it's nothing like COD where it completely changes the dynamic because people are always jumping and jetpacking. this makes the jet packs very fun to use and they take up a slot so not everyone is going to have it.

sounds like an innuendo lol

being 60fps would be a huge deal for me. it would make me love the game a lot more. alas it's not even 30fps on the consoles unless you're in spots where the frame rate is more stable. if you're around buildings and a lot of props, it goes below 30fps, sometimes closer to 10fps.

and especially if you haven't played the previous FO games, i can totally see why you'd love it. it is an awesome game, i'm just taking it slower because i've been there, done that.

the game is basically like oblivion but for shooters. it's probably based on the same engine.

It was ;) just to show how un-inspired it makes me feel. Don't get me wrong it's a game with a admirable amount of quality but PS4 GOTY? Definitely not.

i think the presentation had a lot to do with it. there are things about the game that were putting me off and i've liked all the other FO games. they overwhelmed the person very early into the game. they put in a lot of casual stuff but didn't really go hardcore with it so new players could get into the series. it's probably more complicated than the older games. and this is not even getting into the bugs and performance issues. which were worse for me than the presentation.

i think there's a GotY in there somewhere but not the way it is right now. they definitely missed the ball on this but i will guarantee you that the game will receive a lot of GotY awards and might end up being an official GotY because of the sheer content it has and the improvements they have made over the previous games. if played under the right circumstances, it rivals the best shooters out there but has the content of 10 combined.

It's often closer to about 100fps but whenever I use a terminal I have to switch my monitor to 60Hz because otherwise the game goes funny and I have to load a previous save. It's really annoying and hopefully they patch that out because it's ruined my experience a few times.

I've always wanted to like Bethesda's games but they've always felt wrong to me. Don't know why but I've never gotten along with them. My friend convinced me to try this one and I'm glad I did. The shooting now actually feels like the bullets are going where I want them to go. I always thought VATS was stupid but I find myself using it a fair bit too.

I just can't think of a bad thing about the game. Other than they don't explain things well. I had to google how to run a wire from a generator to items needing power.

In love with the soundtrack though.
