The joys of Internet forums my friend, everyone's got an opinion but you don't have to agree with them!

well it probably still is GotY but that's also because we didn't get a lot of good games this year. are you playing it on the PS4 or PC?

one thing with opinions, i like to find out if an opinion is valid and i think major's opinion is valid, it also shows that while FO4 has created a lot of hype among casuals, i still don't think it's a casual title and i think that's partly why it's getting so much flack because so many non-FO users tried FO for the first time and they didn't get it.
PS4, my laptop sucks ass and would be lucky to run pac-man!
you didn't run into frame rate issues? it hinders my shooting experience, i end up relying more on VATS than i want to.
It's often closer to about 100fps but whenever I use a terminal I have to switch my monitor to 60Hz because otherwise the game goes funny and I have to load a previous save. It's really annoying and hopefully they patch that out because it's ruined my experience a few times.

I've always wanted to like Bethesda's games but they've always felt wrong to me. Don't know why but I've never gotten along with them. My friend convinced me to try this one and I'm glad I did. The shooting now actually feels like the bullets are going where I want them to go. I always thought VATS was stupid but I find myself using it a fair bit too.

I just can't think of a bad thing about the game. Other than they don't explain things well. I had to google how to run a wire from a generator to items needing power.

In love with the soundtrack though.
of course, people of today don't know how amazing music is from that time...this is the only game out there that has music that i actually listen to when i'm listening to music lol. like the classical and jazz, piano concertos (strauss/debussy) etc.

there are three issues with the game that are major 1) it doesn't explain stuff clearly - bad for newcomers. 2) frame rate issues - PC doesn't have this obviously and glitches. 3) RPG mechanics are not apparent to new users, can get lost in the game, too much stuff all at once, quests might not be interesting etc.

PC at least takes care of one of those issues.

true, i do too but the improved the shooting mechanics enough to rival other good shooters, which is why to me it feels like a missed opportunity to make the game more than it is right now. especially among casuals.

i personally think the game would've done wonders if they had a proper casual mode where a lot of the stuff didn't matter, like accuracy, action points (or a lot more of them), more guns from the start, more bullets, more money, more armor, no fusion core required for power armor, more companion weapons etc.

it would've made my son love the game. and kept the hardcore mode for us. they did the same thing with Metro Redux. what this does is give casuals the opportunity to enjoy the game while keeping the core game intact for the core users.
I can not believe people are voting for Fallout 4 as the game of the year........

Poor graphics
Glitches galore
Lacks a proper tutorial
Poor frame rate

I am sorry, but these issues do not equal a game of the year.

The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Bloodborne, all blow Fallout away. I think people were voting for Fallout 4 because it just came out and it was the new hottness. I bet if this poll was erased and created again next week, the votes would be different..
I can't believe people would vote W3. That game was mediocre. Solid formula but doesn't pan out well. Still consider that one of the most overrated games of all time.

As for F4, it's the formula that everyone loves. They nail the experience. You never know what's around the former, staying from the beaten path pays off (Witcher 3 was God awful in this department), modding system is great, settlements are great, just when you think this game is my bitch you run across a mirelurk Queen and get you ass handed to you. People are willing to overlook minor flaws for a great experience. I agree it could definitely use some tutorials for sure. Especially, in the settlements.

Also, I've yet to see this plethora of glitches. I've seen people say they are there but haven't really given any examples. Of course the usual Bethesda crap is there. But none of that stuff ruins the game. Hell, Witcher 3 glitched me out of a platinum, which last time I played still hadn't been fixed. That game was glitchy as well so I don't think it's fair to point out F4's flaws and ignore its flaws as well. That's one thing that annoyed me with all the praise of that game, no one brought up the negatives. Only wanted to bring up positives. F4 was being ridiculed right out of the gate because of its previous entries. I don't deny F4 has issues, but nothing that makes me say man what the hell.

Also for a game that is as large as it is I don't see where the graphics are terrible.

So if we start weighing flaws W3 shouldn't be anywhere on list if F4 shouldn't.

Sure, I do that all the time. If I like the flavour of a game I can overlook a lot of stuff because I'm enjoying the theme.

Like you say, the idea's already sold, and the usual Bethesda glitches are plain to see, makes the experience too familiar though. That's a negative for me there. Even so, it plays fine, as you would expect... familiar feeling again :snicker but not exceptionally. Shooting is loads better but I was always a fan of VATS and used it 99% of the time during F3. F4 is very different in that respect though, does play pretty well in FPS mode for an RPG and I've been using it frequently, you have to really. Graphics? They're an improvement but not spectacular. Works for me I'm just not blown away *shrug*

Agreed :)

Don't forget though, Bloodborne is a better game than Fallout 4, Witcher 3 easy-peasy ;) MGS? No idea, I've not played it but it looks sweet.

the inside stuff in FO4 is pretty ok looking but you don't find the wilderness beautiful? i have yet to see an open world shooter that does it better, i haven't played W3 yet lol.

Fair enough. Just personally, F4 offers a sense of immersion in the experience that no other game touches IMO. But I can definitely see why people wouldn't like it.

Fallout 4 is deserving to be nominated, but it just hasn't pulled me in as much, even with its better gunplay. It's the only PS4 game that has frozen on me. MGS5, Bloodborne and Witcher 3 are above it for me. It didn't do as well critically compared to those 3, even in user reviews.

mostly because of their execution. the game was rushed. also i feel like they improved quite a bit but could've done better with the flow of the game. the reason i keep leaving the game is because i kind of don't care what the quests are, they are all the same to me, just grinding. it's more fun to explore and find out interesting stuff on the way rather than doing quests but there's only so much of even that you can do because you need patience to just wander around and find stuff.

i still think it's a great game but i also think that they should've focused more on actual cutscenes and more engaging storyline. rather than, hey i need to [do something that is the point of this game] and i'll find things to do on the way there which will have nothing to do with the actual storyline.

look at how TLOU did the narrative, every character was extremely important and they all leave a mark on you.

FO4 would be a much better game if it were just more simple, like more enemies outside rather than inside in buildings and structures (or you can say sort of like dungeons). and there are actually more enemies wandering around than previously, i'm just saying that i would've liked more random encounters. i enjoy those a lot and we don't get enough of those.

they needed a stronger system where people could follow the main story rather than have to figure out which one is going to advance the story. no one has time to go through dozens of long difficult quests just to find out where to progress in the game. it's just a jumbled mess.

of course FO3 and NV were like that too but that was also almost a decade ago and it was still a fresh game for that time. they really need to move forward and start focusing on quality rather than quantity. that's the reason why people are getting put off.

FO4 feels more like an MMO rather than a regular RPG with lots of interesting side stories. it has a lot of grind quests. i mean, i'm sure there are side stories but i mean, i felt like there weren't enough. i feel like i'm just doing other people's chores and they really don't have a proper purpose other than, hey we'll join you.

for their game to get out of that niche market, they need to focus more on engaging narratives and simpler focus. they can still have the 400 hr side quests but only as a side quest...once the main quest is finished. they need to show urgency of the main quest.

i felt like MGS5 did a much better job with that...even though i wasn't happy with the way MGS5 did it either, they made it more mission based rather than narrative based but i still felt like i was progressing and that it was keeping me interested. FO4 just sort of expects you to figure it out and find ways to make things fun, it doesn't guide you at all on your pacing. that is good and bad. good for those that don't need guidance, bad for most casuals who do.

Yeah F4 is a bit different. Its not meant to be a heavily story driven game. It's meant to be the ultimate open world exploration game. As much as it would be great to get the total package, that rarely happens. Simply because the world distracts from the main goal. MGS 5 suffered from the sake to as great as a game as it was.

Lol! One week after or three weeks after release. It didn't make much difference to me. And considering a lot of people has been playing it obsessively since release, I believe they would say the same.

(played it so much I had to have a "time-off" game in between)

That is a tough decision. Since I am MGS biased, I would have to say MGSV, but I also enjoyed Witcher 3 just as much.

Great releases this year!

Thought I'd give this one a bump up.......

Just over a week to go on the poll and thus far Fallout 4 is in first, closely followed by MGSV then Bloodborne.

Final push PSU, it could still go any number of ways.

As added excitment, the winner of this poll will be presented with the most prestigious of prizes, this magnificent Golden Cock:

Let's not disappoint those developers!!

I need to change my vote to Fallout 4 lol...I admit that i was wrong about it. that opinion was before the FO4's recent patch. also i was still enjoying Star Wars back then. Haven't touched it since then. just no content. FO4 is picking up for me and have played about the same hours as i did on Star Wars and i realize i'm just scratching the surface...

Star Wars, while has fantastic presentation, is not worth much at all.

Until Dawn and Bloodborne are fantastic. Fallout 4 is great too but it's basically at it's core the same as it's always been.

I haven't played Witcher or MGS 5 yet as I bet those are deserving as well.

well it's tricky. I have never said I supported EA after BF4 was fixed (you couldn't play this online for months) and even when DICE started giving us free DLC, which is something I demanded because I felt like they owed it to us. I supported DICE for their efforts although I'm sure they didn't have much say in it, EA wanted them to fix things and without EA's approval, they couldn't give us free stuff, and it was probably also EA that rushed DICE to launch BF4 at the time they did, seeing how broken of a mess it was. it took them a year to actually relaunch the game (unofficial but many called it a relaunch once we could actually play online again - which was at least 6 months after next-gen launch)

It's the same thing when it comes to Activision, I will still play COD games if they are good, even though I despise Activision way more than I despise EA.

In the end, if a game is good, I'll play it, doesn't mean I won't speak against the game's publishers/developers. There are times I won't play the game because I just don't support their scheme - Destiny. It's a good game but ruined by the concept of DLC-based gameplay they're going with. Don't care how good it is - i'm glad it's not too good lol that i can't avoid it.

So I still stand by all the flack I gave to EA (note: not DICE ;)). In fact, ex-COD:MW creators that went to MS to create that contentless pile of crap Titanfall and Bungie selling their souls to Activision, are the only devs that I've ever spoke against.

I think if we took out all publishers today, the cost of lower production gaming would be worth the shit that we have to deal with now where games don't even have content anymore, so it's actually working against us, the point of publishers in the beginning was that games would have more budget thus more content thus more value, that is not the case anymore with many publishers.

The last part is the bitter truth I hate from the deep of my heart. There was a kotaku article FinalSin posted a few days ago. It was about destiny, a writers silently cries about how publishers fucks our biggest hobby. It was sad to read.
